General questions about SpaceEngine

12 Jan 2020 10:35

(update of former ugly post #556 - jpeg was added via drag and drop - deletion of #556 already requested via "Report post")

For the explanation of astronomical facts I like to add 3D objects (much simpler than detailed spacecrafts) into the Earth's orbit and control it via scripts.
I already managed adding a 3D cone in space that is bound to the earth and follows earth rotation. I did that in the same way how the Apollo LandingModules (LM Eagle etc) are placed on the moon (defining Spacecraft in planet catalog and connecting it with the 3D model).

The next thing I want to do is to control the object position/rotation parameters by a script. Changing such parameters can be done by selecting the 3D object and to open the Editor (Shift+F2) but that's not what I want (takes too much time and would disturb the explanation session).

Are there script commands available which allow changing object parameters (like position, rotation, color, visibility, etc)?
The only comand I found in the SE manual is to control the object visibility (ShowObject/HideObject), but nothing else for other object properties/parameters.

One additional thing (can maybe only answered by SpaceEngineer): is there some documentation avaiable/planned about the keywords used for the definition of catalog objects? I used the content of ApolloLandingSites.sc in Catalogs.pak as blueprint but I would be interested very much in an explanation of the keywords used in such  *.sc files.

Does anyone know some details?

Best regards,
Roland

General questions about SpaceEngine

23 Feb 2020 08:26

Hey. I just got Space Engine, but every time I go into the planetarium, it flashes pixelated colors mostly around the bright objects, but also on the background, too. I updated my graphics card and it did not fix the issue. Then I tried updating the display driver, but I couldn't find the place to update it. Somewhere on the website, a user posted this: "Maybe some info for others (and the team): a lot of people with high-end systems and/or more then enough RAM, have disabled the Page File within Windows. Turns out that (at least with NVidia drivers) that causes crashes and/or total system freeze with SE. Since I did enable Page File again (just let Windows manage it), no more crashes and freezes". I then tried that, but it still didn't fix the problem. Space Engine navigates just fine, but the flashing colors make it so that I can't see the intricate designs of the objects I got Space Engine for. Sometimes it fixes itself, but only for a few seconds before it goes back to flashing.

Edit: I have gotten it to go stable, but if I make too much movement such as landing on planets, then it occurs again. Anyone have a solution?

Maybe increase your page file to a high constant number?  I have it set at 80 GB

General questions about SpaceEngine

05 Mar 2020 03:10

Hi!
I'm actually intend to buy the PRO version, because of the following feature:

The program states it can provide "Unlimited resolution for exporting skyboxes, including with HDR DDS cubemap format" (https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/1026970/ss_b43c09bc2447a8f7792a922c7bd1403b19bd8505.jpg?t=1567494844).

I would like to use these maps in DAZ-Studio https://www.daz3d.com.

Two questions:
- Has anyone tried this and can say if it does/doesn't work?
- Is there an example cube map as stated above, or a equirectangular map to download and test?

Thank you in advance!

General questions about SpaceEngine

Hola,

Is there a way to trick the programm in either
1) Exporting a equiplanar/cylindrical projection instead of a cube map
OR
2) Make screenshots with 32bit
?

1) Exporting a equiplanar/cylindrical projection instead of a cube map
You can set the view to 'Cylindrical' in the 'Display' settings and then take a screenshot. You can also adjust the size as desired in window mode. (Or at least as large as your available VRAM allows.)
2) Make screenshots with 32bit
If you have the PRO version of SE, you can take a screenshot with transparency. ('Save transparency' in the 'General' page in the settings.) The black color is made transparent. Transparent images are saved with 32 bits.

Post your computer specs and which operating system of Windows you do have on your computer Windows 10? Windows 8?

From your screenshot it looks like you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista which it's below minimum system requirements of SpaceEngine.

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there any way to accelerate time past 10000x while controlling a ship? Some setting inside mainuser.cfg or a console command overide?? I find 10000x quite limiting expecially if you don't want to use warp drive or go beyond 1c.

How to add music in the plaer in Space engine?
You can create a folder called 'addons\music' and put your music in there. However, they must be in '.ogg' format.
And if necessary you have to change the 'context.cfg' file in the folder 'data\music'.

General questions about SpaceEngine

I have problems with selecting objects in SE 0.99. The left mouse-click works very well with stars, planets, etc. But not with nebulas and galaxies. If I want to use the nebula editor I always get the message "select an object", but I'm not able to select the object (e.g the Andromeda Nebula) Did i Miss something? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Karsten
