Space Engine on Discord

09 Aug 2018 01:22

I want to ask the experts a question, how can I solve the problem of getting further and further away from the target when the spacecraft is flying, whether I haven't figured out why whether the ship is accelerating or decelerating in the principle of flying the target, I am always observing the eccentricity of the space orbit. When it reaches a value of more than 0.000, the spacecraft will fly close to the target again. Does that have anything to do with the perigee or apogee of the target? Anyway, I really can't understand the principle of it, please help by experts, space engine is a very good software, I am learning it preliminarily, I am very obsessed with spacecraft. Thank you very much!

General questions about SpaceEngine

Did you read this:http://spaceengine.org/manual/space-flight-school/? Its where you should start, along with the main SE manual. Yes, that is a lot of reading, but no-one said piloting realistic space-ships in a realistic space simulator would be a cake-walk! Unless you are a total physics whizz, your first experiences with using the space ships will be completely confused.

There is a lot of data on the ship interface, but the best you can do is just learn the controls and maneuvers step by step and start simple. I think from your description you are trying to enter a stable orbit? The controls you should be watching and trying to balance are in the upper right, the velocities and delta v. Incidentally, these also tell you how fast you are going relative to the reference frame (a planet), which is very useful.

General questions about SpaceEngine

Vladimir teacher hello, I hope you can make a space shuttle video tutorials, although I an a see you space flight manuals, but still it is hard to understand some principle, but I'm much better now, may be able to understand the space shuttle flight is going on, but I still don't see how song engine use, hope to have a video tutorial, China has many lovers obsession with space engine, but the largest network in our community and BBS spacecraft tutorial is very scarce, it seems difficult for us. Hopefully you can do some tutorials on video, which won't take you too long. thank you

是。我现在几乎和班车保持联系,重要的是我似乎对航天飞机的工作方式有所了解,但我仍然对航天飞机的经线驱动有一些问题。

wangwei880204, there's a rather complete flight manual, I hope you will find it useful:

General questions about SpaceEngine

16 Aug 2018 21:46

General questions about SpaceEngine

16 Aug 2018 21:55

Thank you teacher, I now know the principle of the spacecraft warp speed flight. But I'm still a little fuzzy about the relative speed of the spacecraft's flat-panel display in space and how far it is from the target star. I'm not sure that the relative speed will change the distance of the target star that the spacecraft will travel. For example, my spaceship is approaching the earth, and then something happens. But I just don't know if that's the case and sometimes the spacecraft will go away from the earth, and then the way I'm going to do it is to click on the button that stops the momentum in all directions or use the reverse flight to bring the relative and physical speed down again to zero. I just can't understand what factors determine the change in the target distance, and of course I pay attention to the change in the orbital eccentricity e. This way, the spacecraft will change the distance, but I'm not sure if my understanding is correct. I may be a little vague in expression, please ask the teacher for guidance. Thank you very much.
I want to express what I want to say with a picture marked with a red box. Maybe you can understand my question.

General questions about SpaceEngine

24 Aug 2018 21:31

Hello my dudes - I have a pretty simple question. Is there no way to return the coordinates (in RA/Dec/Dist) of the player's current position in space, rather than just the RA/Dec/Dist of an object? For distance I know you can just select the Sun and see how far away, along with all the other general information, but I can't find any way to get my current position's RA/Dec, which I need because I'm trying to plop a solar system down where I currently am via addon.
Pluto is a planet and I will fight you

Yes.
You go to the desired position.
Choose 'Sol' in the 'Find object' window (F3).
Open the system browser for Sol (F2).
Open the 'Wiki' window (i).
Make a right click on the sun or the barycenter, depending on whether you use SE 0.980 or SE 0.980_e, and you will see in the 'Wiki' the 'Right ascension' and the 'Declination'.
SolRaDec02.jpg
Add or subtract 12 from the 'RA' (depending on whether it is below or above 12) and change the sign for the declinaton!
Then you have seen RA and Dec of your position from the sun.

Why are so many of the catalogued galaxies at incorrect distances and improper spatial relationships to either the milky way or galaxies in their own group?

According to which source are they at improper distances? Each survey (like the Sloan survey, Hubble observations etc) gives slightly different distances for all the galaxies. This is due to the fact that the distances between galaxies is so immense that calculation equations only work so well. Astronomers find galaxy distance by measuring the brightness of stars and if possible, supernova, within the galaxy. This is hard work and reliant on the sensitivity of the instruments and methods used. Thus a lot of galaxies have only rough estimates as to there distance.

As for SE having "incorrect distances", I'd wager it is because SpaceEngineer is referencing his own astronomical catalog, or making averages by combining the different distances.

As for spatial relationships, I think you're referring to the rotational quaternion for each galaxy (I guess they have something to do with Euler parameters), they are for the most part contained in a catalogue file in .CSV format, NGC-IC.csv, with 10887 lines (and 10886 galaxies). You can read something more about it in the online manual.

Anyway, like any other big catalogue in SpaceEngine, it's fairly possible for some rotational parameters being wrong.
There's an Edit mode described in the link above (press numpad * twice etc.), allowing users to change those parameters to match photographic references.
That's exactly why, under the thread "Mods and Addons", there are several "Community Addons" topics where users can share their fixes. There is no specific "galaxy fixes" thread, but a more general "Catalog Fixes" could be a good starting point to post these fixes.
Depending on the number of reports and/or contributions we could also create such a thread.
In the end, anyone, please feel free to provide better positioning parameters.

Galaxies are known to move some quite fast. I've noticed online some Galaxies have multiple positioning data. I guess I should assume all locations in SE are based on the frame j2000?

Galaxies don't move fast enough (or rather, they are so large) that their movement has nothing to do with them having different positions in different catalogs.

General questions about SpaceEngine

Thanks so much Mosfet for your reply. Yes, improper rotational quaternions are definitely part of the problem but I was more concerned about galaxies that Hubble has shown to be definitely interacting at close range but are separated in SpaceEngine by many more light years than the Hubble data indicates. I am delving into modifying the csv. file and place it in add ons. Are accurate quaternion parameters even available from Hubble data?

I was wondering if there is any group that is focused on checking catalogued objects only and modifying that data in accordance with known parameters so as to produce an add on that is as accurate as possible for a potential teaching aid?
