Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

17 Aug 2017 19:08

Not exactly a bug on my side, but more of an error during development.

All of the Solar system's planets have wrong orbital inclinations. I am sure that at least Earth has an incorrect inclination.
I assume that when the developers created the Earth/Moon barycenter in 0.980, they mistakenly left out applying Earth's orbital inclination setting onto the barycenter, as the barycenter's inclination is 0, while Earth's remains 5.15.
Because of this, you won't see any solar or lunar eclipses, at least not on the real dates.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

For Nvidia users: Does anybody know if this issue occurs with their 0980 installation (or 0981 if they have access to it) and the latest Nvidia Driver version(s) after ver 382.53 which is the last working version without this issue for me at least?
I was just about to report this problem. This definitely happened after the driver update, and continues to be an issue after I delete the cache and all my mods.
I like cute pokemon and space games.

This is addressed for the next release.

Ah that is a relief for me - at least it is not my GPU/windows installation / other issue on my end to blame :)

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

18 Aug 2017 14:19

This probably has been mentioned before, but why is it that on the surface of a planet with an atmosphere, the sun has a lens flare at sunrise and sunset, but not when the sun is higher in the sky?

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

19 Aug 2017 14:05

I have a problem with red dwarfs (so far, only a select few). Every time I get close to the Proxima Centauri system at certain angles, the screen goes entirely black and I have no option but to close out of the game window and restart the program, hoping the "crash" won't happen again. The same is true if I try to come within 4.7 light-hours of Alpha Centauri B.
Most times I'm still able to move during the "blackout" even though I cannot see what I'm doing. If I move far enough and then reboot the program, the graphics come back on. This time, however, nothing's working. From the preview I can see on the home screen (which, by the way, I cannot access once I enter a "blackout"), I am stuck on Proxima 4 and I cannot move. I can do absolutely nothing but flail blindly in-game and keep rebooting after each flailing session.
Things to know that will affect solution recommendations:
  • My computer has the recommended hardware including the graphics card. I made sure of this before I downloaded the program in the first place.
  • I doubt it's an artefact of the in-game graphics settings because I've fiddled with every possible setting in the tab and nothing I have tried relieves me of the "blackout".
  • I'm not sure if it's a legitimate bug since I've searched my problem online and nothing relevant came up.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this are appreciated. I'm rather fed up at this point.

Update: I managed to free myself after a helluva lot of the aforementioned flailing, but the blackout problem still persists. I refuse to visit the Proxima or Alpha Centauri systems again until this is resolved somehow.

Disable comet tails. (Sixth symbol from the top in the right toolbar.)
There seems to be a problems with some graphics cards in this version of SpaceEngine.

I followed the directions, installed a new clean copy of SE 0.98, installed the patch, and got all my stuff and preferences set up. Upon seeing the eclipse from the ground where I live, to my utter shock and complete apocalyptic horror-movie horror, there is a depth-sorting issue. The moon wouldn't cover the sun until I turned on the orbit rendering:

I've been able to see the issue in similar circumstances.

Delete the 'main-user.cfg'. It is in the 'config' folder. SpaceEngine will create a new one from the 'main-def.cfg' file.

But first you should change the 'Language' parameter to 'eng' in the section 'Interface' in the 'main-def.cfg'. (Or to your language.) (If you're not a Russian.)

Interface
{
    Language                "rus"    // interface localization

Ever since I updated to 0.9.8.0e, the cubemap of the blueshifted sky around black holes only affects a rectangle with the same aspect ratio as my display, instead of covering the entire sky.

Check your black hole quality settings in the graphics options and make sure it's high enough.

I see this problem when the black hole settings are both medium and high, but not low.
