Well, nevermind. Turns out my Nvidia GeForce Experience was outdated. Sorry for unnecessary spam.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

11 Dec 2018 17:45

Hello.
Recently, I've been wanting to visit past planets that I've screenshotted and saved. But for some reason, when I type the id in, it says it can't find the object. I've deleted and reinstalled space engine many times and idk if that's why or not. Please help

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

Mrwaffles, if you have a more recent version of SpaceEngine than the one you used for those screenshots, it's very likely that those objects don't exist in your actual version, or that the identification number of the galaxy they were located has changed because of the presence of an addon that change that ID, like a galaxy addon.
If you want to find them again, you have to use the exact same version.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

Hi, I just downloaded the 0.980 and the 0.980e patch, I installed the version and the patch as well and I'm having a few problems (by the moment, I've just been playing this version for ~30 minutes)

1.- Earth's atmosphere sometimes dissapear, then I go to another place like other system, I come back and the atmosphere is there again.
2.- Some nebulas are not visible. At the distance (If I'm away enought) I can see them shining but I get closer and there's nothing, just an empty space, like they're literally not there.

I'm actually acquainted with SpaceEngine and how it works (mostly), I've played almost all versions since 0.972 but I barely know something about this version, so I don't know what to do and I'll be thankfull with your help, thanks.

Patch e introduced better precision orbits for Solar System objects like planets and moon, allowing the simulation of eclipses, in time for the American eclipse in 2017. Unfortunately since it couldn't be tested properly it has many bugs. If you don't particularly care for precision orbits, my advice is using plain 0980 with no patch.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

Mosfet, thanks. I'm playing again without the patch and everything seems normal to me.

PS: To avoid losing my customized keys and stuff I copied the config folder into the reinstalled 0.980 and I saw the difference between the orbits of the patch and the orbits of the original version, since Earth was 20 000 km away from the camera when I closed the 0.980e and I appeared way too far from it (maybe 2 million km, idk) after opening the 0.980. But it doesn't bother me, I don't like bugs. Thanks again.

HD textures problem. No difference.

13 Dec 2018 02:05

I downloaded IO moon textures. Saved them to: "addons/solarsysHD"
Here is the comparison WITH and WITHOUT:

Now, tell me which one is the HD texture ?

SpacyLuke, please attach your se.log file, it's in your SpaceEngine/system/ folder. You have enough posts to add files as attachments or images, by the way.

Windows 10 Home version 1803 installed 5/15/2018 os build 17134.471

display connected to NVIDIA Quadro K620 dual display mode. display refresh 51 Hz and 59 hz on each monitor *problem?* idk

I can post a crash report uploaded to the my google drive ? If i knew where to look for what?

yax, please use https://pastebin.com/ to post your se.log file, which is located in your SpaceEngine/system/ folder, and give us here the address of the file. I had issues too with Quadro before.

The Io textures are a bad example. They contain only one layer, as well as the original textures. (If you go very close to the surface, you can see a small difference, but whether the HD textures are better is probably a matter of taste.)
You have to go to a planet with more levels. You may also download the UltraHD textures. Then you see a difference.
However, the difference is not really big. For every level of detail, the size of the files triples. If you really want to see big differences, you'd have to download huge amounts of data. This is only possible online, as with Google Earth.

This is exactly why I never downloaded them, takes too long and too much space for the level of improvement that you get.  For Earth or Mars or the Moon, is there a significant improvement? Like let's say you were looking at the Grand Canyon, or the Himalayan Mtns, or the beaches of Long Island, or the Tropical Rain Forests in Hawaii or the Amazon, or Olympus Mons on Mars, or the craters or maria on the Moon, could you really tell a difference between the regular textures, HD and Ultra HD?
