Re: Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

28 Feb 2025 14:23

Space engine is crashing after clicking on exe file. It says initialising Open GL and than crashes. I am running it on HP Omnibook X Laptop 14, with processor - Snapdragon(TM) X Elite - X1E78100 - Qualcomm(TM) Oryon(TM) CPU   3.42 GHz, installed RAM 16 GB, 64 bit OS , ARM based processor With Windows 11.

Please suggest if i can run Space engine on my System and what are the possible ways to do it. This is for my Kid :)

Thanks and regards

Hi. From what I can see online, your laptop has an integrated graphics Qualcomm Adreno processor. I'm afraid these graphics processors are not compatible with SpaceEngine. Can you upload your se.log file that you can find in your SpaceEngine \system folder?

The log looks partial or damaged, but your SpaceEngine version is rather old. Update your GOG version to the latest one, and try and update your notebook graphics drivers to the latest version available, those are apparently from August 2024.

Try and delete your save-user.cfg and spacecraft.cfg from your SpaceEngine config folder. If that doesn't solve the issue, and the problem it's happening with ships specifically into the solar system, it's also possible that one of the many addons you have installed is changing some parameters related to Earth or the Sun and it's causing this. There is no clear indication of such issue in the log, but I would suggest to try and disable the addons from Steam with the "Workshop configuration and uploading tool", to see which one could be responsible for that.

I'm having an issue with planet textures failing to load after having explored celestial bodies in the solar system. After exploring a few planets within the solar system, the surfaces of every celestial body becomes lower quality, and then fails to load entirely. Their surfaces become pitch black and only their atmospheres are visible. This does not happen if I exclusively only explore outside of the solar system, but I want to be able to look at the solar system.

I've looked around online for solutions but I haven't found any.
I have had this issue for a long while now. It's been really annoying. In the past I've reinstalled SE, cleared the cache, and just recently I've updated my drivers again, but none of that fixed the problem. What am I missing?
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
  • Windows 11
  • 13th Gen Intel Core i5-13600k (20 CPUs), ~3.5GHz
  • 32 GB ram, 8 GB VRAM
I don't understand why this is still happening

Re: Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

Hi to everyone, I have found a strange behavior when I'm in fisheye view mode (and, to some extent, also in cylindrical and cubemap modes). When I click with the mouse on an object (star, planet, indifferently), the software does not select the object below the cursor, but instead it selects another object in another part of the screen (or outside the screen). The object selected is not random, because if I click the same point, the software reacts selecting always the same object, but apparently without a correlation with the point on the screen where I really clicked. The problem there is also in cudemap, cylindrical and even perspective view, but this last only at very high FOVs: I also have found the same exact problem on different PCs, the only things they have in common is the operating system (Windows in both case, 10 and 11). Someone else has seen the same problem? Do you think there is a solution?

Thank you very much.

When in fisheye mode and other warping modes, SpaceEngine takes the position of your mouse as if it was in perspective mode and applies chosen display transformations to its coordinates as well, then it selects the nearest selectable object. That's how the program operates those modes.

Thank you for your answer, but it's not the behavior I see when I'm using fisheye mode. I'll try to post a screenshot: in these image, we have Jupiter in the center of image and Orion just below. I have clicked directly on jupiter: Space Engine instead has selected a star in the lower-right zone, near the lens flare.
[removed code for image]
I have tried to do the same in perspective view, even at the maximun FOV, but it selects the right bodies, Jupiter. Why selecting a body in the middle of the FOV should result in selecting a body near the edge or (in some cases) even outside of FOV? I'm puzzled, it's not logic...
