Thanks and yes that's what I'm trying to do with the six images of the bitmap, find software that will blend them together into a complete immersive experience.  I was told Hugin can do that so that's what I got, now I have to figure out how to use it lol.  Do you have any recommendations for a program that'd be good to assemble a single image from SE cubemaps?

Flashback is pretty reliable but wont edit videos (do people really edit SE videos?)  But OBS can edit them too, although file sizes seem to be a bit larger but still manageable.  Manageable for me is under 4 GB for one hr videos lol.

Here are some of the cubemaps I've done ....not going to post any from the surfaces of planets since those were only 512x512. it wont write files larger than that.

But here are some 2x2 ones:

and here are 4x4, these are probably the largest that can be done and posted here, around 800K each

Nice. But I take it those are just one surface (out of six) of the "cube"?

Yes I just took some astounding ones of some rich star fields, but I dont know if they can be posted here- they are around 3 MB each?
What puzzles me is these high res cubemaps cant be taken from the surface of a planet, but only in space, you have to "go to" an object and not actually land there.  Shouldn't this also be possible to do from the surface and if so how?
By the way what is good software that I could use to make a single immersive image from these cubemaps?

edit- I tried but they're too large to post here- the 2x2 ones are 1.25 MB each and the 4x4 ones are 3 MB each.

4 megapixels and 16 megapixels respectively, just like a good digital camera in terms of resolution!

How is this done and why cant it be done on surfaces?

I'm afraid I have no idea about cubemaps. But if I find out anything, I'll be sure to let you know.

Now, off to find some other postcard images to keep this thread on track... ;)

These are some 4K by 4K cubemaps, I even got the surface of a planet on one.  It only does them on surfaces if the planet doesn't have an atmosphere.  You can click on each picture and even download them at full resolution (4096x4096).

This one?

It is Planet 4 in the system:

RSC 8474-8305-4-998-8

Note it is in a cluster, so RSC prefix. (And it is S.E. 0.9.8.0)

Find a spot by the icecap near the terminator, and dream of the day S.E. has icebergs calving off glaciers. :)

and how do you get that cockpit view?
The one with the astronaut? Not exactly a cockpit view... ;)

I've added a few "greebles" to the Executor model. A maintenance tech is taking a break to enjoy the view standing on the frame next to the green navigation light. I placed a camera view just behind his left shoulder.

In the last view, you can barely make him out, just a couple of pixels at this distance, almost lost in the glare of the green light.

Ahhh, you have such great graphics!  I wonder why I cant get that to happen lol.  Is the purple planet from 0980?  I can run both together but I wish there was a way to export systems from one version to the other.

Yes, it is from 0.9.8.0.

I have a very mediocre system, dual core processor, nVidia GTX 1050... and I have not updated my video driver in ages. As a result, 990 crashes my system, particularly the video card, far more often than 980. Sure, the lighting system is getting much better, and there are bugs in 980 I would like to see fixed, but 990 didn't fix these, plus introduced a few of its own.

Plus I'm not a big fan of Steam.

So I'll keep posting postcards from 980 as long as Vlad lets me. :)
