Doc, where do you get that excellent kind of portal view?  I have been looking for an add-on that does that!  Can I use it in both space flight and airplane mode?

Though I have custom settings and a reshade running for such visuals so your mileage may vary.

I wonder if it's possible for a planet to have two moons and two suns and have two simultaneous eclipses?  Anyway, Abner, can you get 0980e and 0990 to run at the same time as is or can you do it by renaming one of their exe files (since they have the same exe file name)?

That is almost what's going on here — binary planet system:

Standing on one world, you can see a sun about to go behind a sister planet. At the same time, you can see a shadow of the world we are standing on crossing that planet from another sun behind the viewer. So standing on that sister planet and looking back, you would see something similar (but probably a much larger shadow, as I think we are on the smaller body of the two planets).

I'm really not sure. I thought 980e modified your existing 980 installation.  As far as I know, 980e really only added VSOP orbit data to Earth and Moon (and probably other Solar System objects), but also introduced other quirks and bugs. Since I spend no time in the Solar System given that Vlad has given me an entire Universe to explore, I have never seen the need install it. ;)

Hmm, have you tried running the original 0980 and 0990 at the same time then?

Also, I'm trying to do something and I'm not sure it can be done, but it's worth a try.  Is there any way to take 4K and higher res screenshots and/or videos even if your monitor has a lower resolution (or if you're running SE in a window, like a 720K30 ultra preset window, which is what I'm doing with 0990?).  I was able to do 2K and 4K cubemaps but I dont know how to assemble them into a single image.  And that's only in  space.  When on a planet's surface I can only do 512x512 cubemaps (anything higher and the files take forever to write.)  Basically what I want to do is take a 4K or higher res screenshot and/or movie of just what I see on my screen, even though I am running SE in a 720P window.  Can that be done?

My computer is not the latest nor greatest, not sure if it could handle running both versions at the same time, nor would I find it useful to ever do so.

Not sure about the cubemaps. Again, not something I find myself dealing with. What would I do with them?

And as for higher resolution screenshots and movies, I believe they are always what the window is set for. You can make a bigger window than your monitor, but if you make it smaller, the screenshots and movies will be limited to that smaller resolution. I do believe JackDole answered it in another thread.

Thanks, I figured I could use cubemaps to assemble higher resolution screenshots, but it only seems to work right when you're in orbit or in space.  If you're on the surface writing files larger than 512x512 takes forever lol- totally defeats the purpose.  In space you get some astrophotography quality images at 2Kx2K and 4Kx4K but I actually like 2Kx2K more because larger resolutions make the stars look bloated and artificial.

Do you have any samples or examples?

Edit: I tried a different approach a few times myself. Ran the program with my monitor in portrait mode (1080 by 1920), and took overlapping screenshots while panning around. Then I pieced them together in a paint program. Original file size for this panorama is 14,782 by 1,920 pixels. But I can't upload that here because of the 1Mb file size limit.

Yeah, when in space I was able to do photo quality 2K by 2K cubemaps, but they are all well over 1mb in size- more like around 5mb-7mb, which is right in line with the size of images you might get from a digital camera.  I even did 4K by 4K images and they were more like 10mb to 17mb in size, the more detail in them the more memory they use.

But from the surface, cant do over 512 by 512 unfortunately, so it's very low quality.

What software did you use?  I think I see grass lol and are those trees?  0980?  I downloaded panorama stitching software called Hugin, did you use that?

Also, do you make videos with SE?  I use FlashBack and OBS Studio now for that, I can do 1-2 hr videos that are only 1-2 GB in size and 720P resolution at 30 fps.

I thought cubemaps were a 360 degree view of your entire surroundings mapped onto the faces of a cube as though you were inside the cube. And then unwrapped into a 2d bitmap, of course.

No grass or trees, I'm afraid. ;), and yes that was done quite some time ago in 980. This is one of the panels at full resolution:
scr01319.jpg
I used Corel PhotoPaint to put them together and manually blended them.

I did find a free program called Image Composite Editor (ICE) that is made to stitch together frames of a panorama, didn't work too bad, but I had better results doing it manually.

I did try doing a few videos, but never had any luck with them. Perhaps I should try and start with smaller resolution videos first. Don't remember the software I used, but I don't think the final file size was terribly small neither, I think that's why I quit trying.

But speaking of videos, I spent quite a bit of time on HapNStance's youtube chanel. He puts together some nice videos.
