Atlantis Launch with boosters mod

19 Jan 2018 00:05

This is my first attempt at making a mod, its not the best but turned out pretty good. I would like help figuring out how to apply textures as I have yet to make it that far so feel free to update this if you like. I did my best to create the most realist engine effect that I could.  If anyone has some decent textures and would teach me how to add to this I would appreciate it. Also is it possible to change the engine effect color or customize it further? Here are some screen shots.

Hopefully I did the spoiler right but the link works at least be sure to click download in the upper left hand corner. Look forward to input and tips. And thanks for the help from the couple people that was patient enough to help me troubleshoot importing ships. Happy lift-off!

To install just insert the Pak into you addons folder. Hope you guys enjoy!!       atlantislaunch

Are you sure you posted the images correctly?

You can customize engine colors in the ship cfg file.

As for the booster stuff, I would recommend waiting for 0.9.9.0 docking system and doing staging with that.  There are also shuttle models available from the orbiter community, HarbingerDawn and myself have worked with those models before.

I wish they were in this version. I sort of just did this for myself to learn because I wanted the boosters in my SE and thought it would be a good opportunity to learn how to import and create my own stuff from scratch. Eventually I want to get real good at super high res maps, similar to Klud's addon. I know it involves a lot of space but some of us can handle it and others I can do requests on local areas for people... As far as a new docking system with that, that sounds amazing..

I still don't know how to add textures though on imported ships. I need a model or two just with the textures that someone else made just to practice in my own SE. I will say this, I realize now how much goes into these models you put together.

They either have to be textured by you or by someone else, and you have to edit the SML file to adjust it after importing. It's a bit more complex than I can really get into in a post so I recommend reading

Well once you get the basics down it takes around 5 to 10 minutes to export a model, setup the CFG/SSS files and then import it. Depending on complexity it could take another 5 minutes or couple of hours to get the materials to look right.

yeah the fine details seem like the biggie.. You can only import obj too right? and mtl doesn't support high detail texture?
If I read that correctly or understand correctly should I say.

That is pretty cool.  It would also be neat if you use the docking system to make staging possible, just a thought.

working on it! And better models, with payloads, and launch pad.. Launch pad can be more for fun like a ship type add if I can get it done but its real detailed so that prob will wait for next release unless my friend will agree to let me use his from another sim until mine is done.

Work Progress, on launch pad.. Somethings have been a little slow. Big thanks to David Hutchison and Orbiter for use of the model. The surrounding lidar tiles for KSC will be the biggest challenge I think.

I still have to finish with the textures, then make a version with the RSS Closed, MPL, Shuttle, GW and FC, in place then make a version with the RSS open, And simply ready to launch. Once that is finished I will work on the pads and hopefully have something for you guys to use as an add-on soon. Just time consuming. And I am not the best although getting much better. I think I will go ahead and release the External Tank, and Solid Rocket boosters, early as a ship so that you guys can doc, mount, and do whatever with until I get the full shuttle version together. Unlike the last release the ET, and SRB are high quality so should look pretty good and have a variation of paint schemes.

Sorry I meant to put this up as comparison, and what a finished product will hopefully be. I did not know where to place these comments and stuff in the forum so my apologies if I have done it incorrectly.
