Torrents aren't downloading...

27 Aug 2017 20:04

As the title says, the torrents don't seem to work (Solar System HD and Solar System Ultra). I downloaded and ran the files on August 8th and they've simply been sitting at 0%, not connecting to anyone to download anything.

Does anyone just simply not share the files any more? Is the dev not hosting the base file at all or is something else afoot? I know the software I'm using (uTorrent) is working properly because.. well it's downloading other things at the moment too.

Any ideas?

Torrents aren't downloading...

I've moved this comment content to here. I wanted to create a new thread for this, but for some reason my account is not allowed to create threads yet.

As far as I can see, the tracker for Solar System HD and Ultra are offline. Also, when I look at the .torrent information, there are no trackers listed. It is only trying to use DHT, which will not likely work unless everyone uses it. I have also noticed that the tracker for the Install exe tends to go offline quite frequently as well, I don't have a watchdog set up to see how often it happens, but it seems to be down more than it is up. The sad thing is that there is one peer who is trying to get the install exe and the tracker is offline, so I'm afraid it's going to be a no-go for them.
It's excessively funny to me, because space engine recommends you use the torrent to increase speed and decrease traffic on their servers, but having a broken tracker and dysfunctional .torrent files only makes server traffic worse.
As for the limit of 250 KB/s on the official mirror, yep! That's what it is, and you're limited to 1 slot as well, if you try to download 2 or more slots at once the server boots you. I managed to get all the files by compiling a list of the mirror 2 download links and starting 4 separate download slots on my seedbox, I got a speed of around 10 MB/s doing that, I probably could have gone up to 20, but didn't want to push it. I now have the SolarSystemHD fully downloaded, in the torrent space, 100%, and ready to seed, but alas, no tracker.
I know we already discussed this, but I feel like it's important. To answer your questions from the other thread...
Wow...! Thank you for the explanation... I'm only seeing this now after an extended absence! I don't suppose you have any way to host these files through another peer exchange temporarily or allow basic (read-only) FTP access of any kind? Once I have a copy of them I'd be happy to set them up on my home-server (it's on 24/7) and wouldn't mind hosting that way if anyone wants.
No, I don't really have a way to set this up. I can attempt to set up a Mega account (that gives me 50 GB) and upload from my server to there. The only problem is that I don't have the tool, anymore, that I used to use to make that transfer happen. If I can figure that out, I will post the links here by modifying this comment. That way you, and presumably anyone else, can download the files from Mega. . . Though I'm not sure how much traffic it can handle. . .

Either I'm missing something or it's actually impossible to edit your own posts after making them? Kind of annoying. But whatever.

Here's the link for SolarSystemHD, I uploaded all the files to Mega, not sure how well it works, but you can give it a try.

Once I get all of SolarSystemUltra uploaded, I'll create another post, I guess.

Ah yes. That's what the problem is. That explains things, because I didn't read the forum rules, in case you couldn't tell...

Don't use the torrents for anything.  I just use the mirror 1 or mirror 2 and everything downloads very quickly.

I agree with you, but for me the problem isn't whether I should, or shouldn't, use the torrents; the problem is that the torrents don't work at all, when they should. The problem I have is that the official website states to use the torrents, but they don't do anything. So far, no one has spoken up at all to say "here is the problem, we are working on it" or "the torrents are being removed, use the direct downloads only", if everyone ignores the problem it isn't going to go away.
I'm guessing the tracker is at someone's private residence, and that's why it is so unreliable (especially the tracker for the .exe installer, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't), so maybe we just need a reliable tracker. I have a feeling that there are a lot of seeders and peers just waiting for the tracker to come back online, and the second it does everything will ignite like a flame.

If someone wants to use the Ultra textures, he must first have the corresponding HD textures installed.

Torrents aren't downloading...

I am seeding Solar System torrents every day from about 9:00 to 23:00 UTC at 100 MBPS. I already seeded 7.5 TB of data.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks
