OUTERRA:

Hi, I found this intriguing program, in this link: http://www.outerra.com/

WOW! It's so realistic! Not only terrain like Space Engine, but volumetric clouds, more realistic water with waves, vegetation and ambient sound, and it's still the demo! A shame it only focus on Earth!

Imagine if Space Engine had all those features! Well, Space Engine already have the advantage that allows you to explore the universe. But think of adding all those things too! Imagine riding a real car or flying using real airplane in an alien planet, like on TRAPPIST-1 planets!

Combine the two and Space Engine will turn to be the best simulator EVER!

Well there is a TODO list on the forum for spaceengine, and it says that it MIGHT one day add all that neat stuff to become super accurate to science, and it even says that there MIGHT be aliens that you can see walking around exoplanets. but it's "uncertain if possible" for those to come, but at least one of those will get in, or at least I hope. :)
Here is the page with the TODO list.

I did post some airliners in my mods thread in Mods & Addons, if it helps :)

Suggestion:

I like to use SpaceEngine for educational purposes sometimes and when doing so, I often find myself turning off procedural stars and planets. This gives a more realistic view of the galaxy based only on star/planet catalogs that we know of with certainty.

The problem is that when searching other catalog stars and browsing the planetary system, procedural planets still show up. When you try to navigate to them, they are not there (because they are procedural).

I would suggest that when users toggle off procedural stars/planets/nebulae/etc... that the game pulls and displays only those planets which are known. It is frustrating to search a system's planetary bodies and find that the displayed planets are not real.

Wow, that's nice one! Thanks!
A non-language dependent user database. So 'user-db.cfg' instead of 'user-eng-db.cfg' or 'user-ger-db.cfg'.
In my opinion, there is no reason to make this database language dependent since it is only used by one user.
But I, for example, occasionally change the interface language between English and German. So if I make any entries in English, these entries are of course not available in German. And vice versa.
If that is not too complicated.
I plan to make English database "default". In case then object has no entry in the local database, English one will be displayed. And there will be a button to switch to English entry at any time. Like in Wikipedia.
One of my childhood disappointments was the Galileo atmospheric probe lacked any imaging instruments.   One of those dreams as a kid and even now is to see gas giants atmospheres from within the clouds.
Galileo probe's communication system has not enough bandwidth to send even a single picture. Too harsh environment and too large distance.

Yes, indeed. I also would like to implement some easy way to distinguish real and generated objects (and semi-real, like exoplanets with fake surface textures). Maybe as a color of the info text, or some icon near object name, or simply a text saying what kind of object it is.

Is it possible to add rouge intergalactic planets.

maybe add lights on certain planets with life. But the odds of finding one of these planets would be like one in 5000 or something.

Are you sure that those aren't already in SE?

I wish that would be in it to.

I plan to make English database "default".
That does not completely solve the problem. Because an entry in the 'user-ger-db.cfg' would still only be displayed when I'm in 'ger' mode. (Or any other language.) It would not show up when I'm in 'eng' mode.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

Hey HarbingerDawn and the whole SE Team,
Well, I just wanted to give you some ideas which you could add to upcoming SE versions.

Working Wormholes
I know that you are already planning to add this, but It's just a reminder.

A Multiverse
When you are flying out of the Universe, for example with a spaceship or just in freecam mode, you will reach a much bigger Multiverse which has procedural generated universes and its also infinite. I would really love to see that in game.

Intergalactic Stars
They do exist in reality, so why not in SpaceEngine?

Real looking galaxies
I mean they already look quite real but not as you would see them on real space pictures.

And those are all my suggestions. I hope you answer me because I would really love to see my ideas in SE!

Any possibility of having a user configurable star browser object search limit added?  even something that can be set via a console command?

For example the default is 10k, but if a user has good hardware where say he/she decides 50k is more appropriate for their PC and wants can set this as they wish.

Working Wormholes
I know that you are already planning to add this, but It's just a reminder.
Has been proposed several times and there is an entire thread for this where it has been discussed.
A Multiverse
When you are flying out of the Universe, for example with a spaceship or just in freecam mode, you will reach a much bigger Multiverse which has procedural generated universes and its also infinite. I would really love to see that in game.
This has also been proposed several times and there is no agreement on whether the idea is compatible with SE's realism or if there is a usefull way of representing them (even if they existed) that doesn't end been a conceptual representation and not a realistic one.
Intergalactic Stars
They do exist in reality, so why not in SpaceEngine?
This has also been proposed several times, there is a thread devoted to this feature only (with an addon for the known intergalactic stars) and this is in the developers TODO list as
SpaceEngineer:
The stars floating in the intergalactic space
Real looking galaxies
I mean they already look quite real but not as you would see them on real space pictures.
This is also included in the developer's TODO list with a more specific proposal as

Galaxies:
  • Unique procedural model for each galaxy
  • Models of irregular and colliding galaxies
  • Complex rendering of spiral galaxies (bulge as precomputed texture + disk as sprites)
  • A closed universe or a universe with a domain structure
  • Embedding of giant nebulae sprite models into the galaxy disc sprite model
  • Adaptive level of detail of galaxy sprite model
  • Render the galaxy by ray tracing
  • Correct blending of dust with the stars (ray tracing or multipass)
Please, "try using the search function using a few different keywords to see if your topic is already discussed in another thread" and welcome to the forum :D

I have a suggestion, sense asterisms are now coming to SE, I was thinking that you could also add in some Chinese or Aztec asterisms as options or something because not a lot of people know what they are, and it would be great for educational purposes.

This 2018.07.28 lunar eclipse was amazing, and it was amazing to watch it through SE. But soon I figured out that the solar eclipse are not simulated well. The moon's shadow does not go to the place where it should be. I think the orbit is not that precise. That's why the solar eclipses are not available.
