General suggestions for SpaceEngine

sizzlingbacon123, right now placing a rover or any other mesh on a planetary surface is a bit of an in-game editing hassle, but a more proper solution it's in the TODO list in a future version.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

Remember that whole 'random location screensaver' suggestion, I think that might still be possible to implement. Maybe it won't go to random locations, just switch between the user-defined bookmarked locations.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I think that Space Engine should have a feature where you can create your own spaceships, control what features they can have such as dropping probes/rovers, (rovers that you can design that is or also have a selection of pre-designed rovers) have spaceships/rovers that can collect samples like Hornblower mentioned, and samples of space dust can be collected by Aerogel. By the way, the spaceships should have moving parts as well. Not to mention, there should be a feature where there are real-life spacecraft you can watch at their work. I've tried to search real spacecraft such as Voyager 1. (how I thought that was part of "all known data about space") Please share all your thoughts on what you think of these features and let's see if we as Space Engine users can make Space Engine A better, more well known computer program that everyone will enjoy!

777471843, Voyager is one of the spacecraft included under Spacecraft > Real in DoctorOfSpace's Mod Emporium thread. You'll need to pilot it yourself, because there's currently no way for SE to load SPICE kernels for real trajectories. You can find a lot of information about using SE spacecraft in SpaceEngine Spaceflight School on the old forum. I don't think this has been made available here yet?

I came here to suggest that contextual music playing scripts should have an "exclusive" parameter, which would allow a piece of music to play ONLY at a specific object or type of objects, and NOT play at any other time.

Found a great procedural fractal terrain generator for S.E.

I wish procedural moons should be further out from their parent body. It seems as if most moons of rocky worlds in SE are, well, not moon-distance

Hi I have a question, I have been trying to find some supermassive black holes with the program and realized the top three are not in the program!  Or are they there and I just haven't found them?  Here they are

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... holes#List

List of most massive black holes

Name
Solar mass
(Sun = 1)
Notes

S5 0014+81 40000000000[6][7][8] A 2010 paper suggested that a funnel collimates the radiation around the jet axis, creating an optical illusion of very high brightness, and thus a possible overestimation of the black hole mass.[6]
SDSS J102325.31+514251.0 33100000000[9]
Black hole of central quasarof H1821+643 30000000000[10] Nearest galaxy cluster harboring a quasar in its core.[1

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S5_0014%2 ... black_hole

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H1821%2B643

Those two aren't there and number 4 is there but the program lists it as a spiral galaxy quasar while wikipedia lists it as an elliptical galaxy quasar? what gives?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APM_08279%2B5255

also I cannot see the energetic jet emanating from M87.

also does the program include quark stars?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_star

Observed overdense neutron stars[edit]
Statistically, the probability of a neutron star being a quark star is low,[citation needed] so in the Milky Way there would only be a small population of quark stars. If it is correct however, that overdense neutron stars can turn into quark stars, that makes the possible number of quark stars higher than was originally thought, as observers would be looking for the wrong type of star.
Quark stars and strange stars are entirely hypothetical as of 2011, but observations released by the Chandra X-ray Observatory on April 10, 2002 detected two candidates, designated RX J1856.5-3754 and 3C58, which had previously been thought to be neutron stars. Based on the known laws of physics, the former appeared much smaller and the latter much colder than it should be, suggesting that they are composed of material denser than neutron-degenerate matter. However, these observations are met with skepticism by researchers who say the results were not conclusive;[16] and since the late 2000s, the possibility that RX J1856 is a quark star has been excluded.
Another star, XTE J1739-285,[17] has been observed by a team led by Philip Kaaret of the University of Iowa and reported as a possible candidate.
In 2006, Y. L. Yue et al., from Peking University, suggested that PSR B0943+10 may in fact be a low-mass quark star.[18]
It was reported in 2008 that observations of supernovae SN2006gy, SN2005gj and SN2005ap also suggest the existence of quark stars.[19] It has been suggested that the collapsed core of supernova SN1987A may be a quark star.[20][21]
In 2015, Z.G. Dai et al. from Nanjing University suggested that Supernova ASASSN-15lh is a newborn strange quark star.[22]

Can someone remind me why we can't have procedural on custom planet textures like earth or mars?

One other suggestion I looked up M42 Great Orion Nebula and it doesn't look like the pictures I have seen; the pictures show all sorts of colors amber, yellow, orange, red and pink, but in the program it just looks pink? Can we make it look more like pictures that people take with their cameras?

Also is there any way to show an entire constellation the way we see it from Earth- like Orion?  You could accurately show the whole sky from a place on Earth and eclipses, transits and occultations, too- the way Stellarium and Starry Night do, and then we can just select an object and "go there."

In addition to that can we simulate actual weather on Earth at a specific spot I land on- so if I land on NYC and it is snowing it will show it snowing with the temp and the right amount of snow on the ground and if it's partly cloudy it will show clouds moving in the right direction according to wind speed and direction.  Along with accurate time for sunrise and sunset by location as well as moonrise and moonset and moon phase as well sky rendering to show the right color gradient as well as twilight and night time?   A shareware weather program called Yowindow does this so perhaps that could be incorporated here too?  It uses airport METAR info.

is there a way to automatically update exoplanets as they are discovered like Starry Night Pro Plus does- as well as asteroid, comet, ISS and satellite orbits?

It's a complicated problem. Each pixel of the texture needs to be aware of its neighbors so that they can be interpolated properly. How can you handle the transition between textures at different resolutions when you approach the planet? What happens if the bump, diffuse and specular maps are of different resolutions? How do you create a sharp-edged coastline on a body of water that isn't at sea level? If a pixel is at a high altitude, and its neighbors are also at a high altitude, is this a mountain range or a plateau?

A-L-E-X, most of the things you asked are in the TODO list or only partially implemented, others seem like science-fiction to me but SpaceEngineer could have a different opinion :)
From what I get, Quark stars are hypothetical objects, and as a rule of thumb SpaceEngine will not have such things if they are unconfirmed.

okay :) one other thing I wanted to ask about, does the program have the full list of quasars and 3C objects? I am fascinated by quasars and have been since a little child and the first book I ever read about them, Ben Bova's In Quest of Quasars, when I was in 4th grade, mentioned the first (and brightest) quasar ever discovered, named 3C 273 and when I looked under Find Object, it doesn't come up :(  there is a 3C 278 but no 3C 273 :(  Can someone please add it? It is the brightest quasar in the sky and the first one discovered so it should definitely be added!

Another one is 3C 9 it's the first quasar discovered with a red shift greater than 2 and another quasar discovered early on, 3C 48 and the most distant Quasar yet discovered https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ULAS_J1120%2B0641

No, quasars don't exist in Space Engine yet.  But they will. :)  The reason they haven't been added already is a bit technical, as with how the engine works it's more difficult than you might guess to portray something as hot and bright as a quasar without raising problems.

Good rule of thumb to use when asking about things in Space Engine is: you don't have to ask about them.  If it exists in nature, it will be shown in Space Engine eventually -- computational challenges considered of course.
