Since Space Engine uses procedural generation to fill in unknown celestial bodies, I assume that two players going to the same distant galaxy will find entirely different stars and planets there. So if one sends his recorded locations to the other, it won't show the same planets/stars/terrains, right?

No, the Space Engine universe should be identical for all users with stock installations of Space Engine, but locations may change if you install mods.

Ohhh, I see. It generates it from some kind of pattern, and that pattern is going to produce the same thing every time.

So place-user.cfg is sufficient to give someone else the location?

Yes, in the next version you will be able to share locations way more easily.

Unfortunately, as Julian said, mods change the pattern of generation and you might not be able to open the location anymore, that's why I suggest having two versions of SE, a "clean" and a "modded" version. (I did that for many other games, even if with recent games I rather create .bat files to move and restore modded files due to very large size of game data)

I use an addon that fixes a single star system. That enough to mess things up?

nah, usually you need to apply a galaxy addon, or change parameters for procedural generators settings in your main-user.cfg file. Take a look at it, it's quite interesting.

Just curious.  How do you feel when someone asks for the location of a planet in one of your Space Engine videos?  I hesitate to reveal my planet locations in my You Tube videos.  Maybe this sounds strange, but it takes time to search for and find a really beautiful planet.  Seems like the person asking for the location should spend his/her own time finding their own special locations.  Am I being ridiculous?

OK.  I appreciate getting another opinion.  I'll share the location.  Thanks.

What if you are on another version?

depending on how much the version has changed procedural generation, you could not find the same locations, or they could generate somehow different.

Yes, you're absolutely correct! In Space Engine, which uses procedural generation to create its vast and ever-expanding universe, each player’s experience is unique to them based on their individual interactions with the game and where they travel. The universe in Space Engine is procedurally generated, meaning that the positions and properties of stars, planets, and other celestial bodies are determined by algorithms, and the "seed" or random parameters for generation are tied to the player's own instance of the game.
