Artist Rendition-Accurate Exoplanets

As I say, the 'Exoplanets 0.990.pak' belongs in the 'addons\catalogs' folder. That is also in the description.
Download the .pak file and put it in addons/catalogs.

Oh okay, I dont have any files in that folder, just two subfolders under /catalogs....  /planets and /stars.  So just put it in /catalogs and not one of the subfolders under it.

Did you put the '.pak' file in the 'addons\catalogs' folder? Not just in the 'addons' folder, as is usually the case with addons.
Uh, I didn't have any "catalog" folder in the addons part to begin with, but making one and adding the pak file there did work, thank you for that!

The 'catalogs' folder is not created automatically by SpaceEngine. Just the 'addons' folder. You have to create the sub-folders yourself if necessary.

JD is there a way to toggle between these planets and the original ones that are part of the program?

Just by removing or renaming the '.pak' file. In this case I always rename they to '.nopak'. This file is then ignored by SpaceEngine.

Artist Rendition-Accurate Exoplanets

28 Mar 2021 09:33

Hey guys, I ran into a problem. I installed the exoplanets PAK and put them into the addon and Catalog folder but when I look up for example Kepler 62, non of the planets show up. its like they are gone. I cant even find them in the search. Do you know why and could one of you guys help? I am new to this so help would be appriciated.

putting this out there in case the author wants to incorporate this into the addon, the original trappist-1 and kepler-452b textures used in the official renders are available online for download:

Tell me, Dr. Freeman, if you can. You have destroyed so much. What is it, exactly, that you have created? Can you name even one thing? I thought not.

I think the TRAPPIST-1 in Exoplanets 0.990.pak is too terrible.

honestly no, it looks great, but if its possible to use custom textures in SE (which i swear i can remember being a thing), then the author could incorporate the actual artists' rendition textures that were used in the official renders

Can you take an artist rendition and put in on a planet in Space Engine?

Title basically says it all.
The goal of this was to emulate the look of the artist renditions of the planets, while getting as close as I can to it's ESI. I've kinda given up on the ESI aspect, but kept the looks.

The 2020 Update!
After years of waiting, the Artist Rendition-Accurate Exoplanets addon is ready for 0.990 (if ignoring any possible errors)!
Along with updating every exoplanet to be suitable for 0.990, every major exoplanet discovery from 2018 has also been added, so let's just get along with them.

As always, if there are any issues or requests you'd like to address please say them! I'll try to keep this up to date, but we'll see how that goes now that I'm in college.
Download the .pak file and put it in addons/catalogs.
This is sick! How did you make these?

i have since learnt that its unfortunately not possible to apply custom textures to planets, you just have to rely on the procedural generation. oh well, maybe thats something for 1.0 and later versions

Well, I think the classes of TRAPPIST-1 planets isn't very suitable. The densities of them isn't enough low to be aquaria planet(in my opinion, the densities of aquaria planets should be under 3). You can have TRAPPIST-1 b and d as aquaria planets, but other planets in TRAPPIST-1 should be terra planets. What's more, I think TRAPPIST-1 b isn't an oceanic planet, and according to the latest research of TRAPPIST-1 b, the planet has no atmosphere.
But I think the surface textures of planet f and g is awesome.

I believe TRAPPIST-1 f is a cool terra planet/cool mesobaric marine rocky terra planet.

Well that sucks. I still want to know how to edit the exoplanets to make them look accurate to the illustrations.
