Yeah, the morale of the story here is just to do your research! Then do it again. And Again. Watch as many reviews as possible, then read through the websites, and be aware that some reviewers can be sponsored by the very product they are supposedly criticizing (not saying its the case here, but I've come across it a lot). In the end, you should not buy anything newer then 6 months, since by then there is a ton of quality reviews for it (and discounts).

Stellarator, other option is to wait half a year or so for better drives and potential price drops.  Price drops being unlikely if AMD doesn't step up and do something.

True for a lot of things aside from computers!

But I am more of a Nvidia man myself....

I switched from AMD/ATI after the 5870 because SpaceEngine seemed to benefit from having Nvidia and Nvidia offered the best hardware I could afford.

My 1080 Ti is the first GPU in maybe a decade that hasnt been a disappointment, 980 Ti came close but had some issues in 1080p.

So in light of this, what video card would come with your full recommendation, in terms of price and performance?

bang for buck 1080Ti with some searching is my opinion.

So results are in the 2080 performs stock and OC comparative to the 1080Ti for basically the same price. I would wait a while and see how prices go though.

The 2080Ti is about 30% faster than the 1080Ti and 2080.

So for me for my own PC I probably get the 2080Ti it's gains are pretty decent depending on optimization of game engines, gains vary from 20-55% , most are around 30%

But I can't justify that price and also not willing to get anything slower either. A *** situation for sure.

I will wait a while and see how it all pans out.

I know that feeling. I got a water cooled top end 980 from EVGA.   I only play old games on it now as it felt too slow on the only 2 modern games I played, now that is 1 , SE.   The other was UT4 and it's slow as in that on even low res, game was abandon in pre alpha anyway hence why I don't play it anymore.

Tried out a 1080 recently and it also felt mediocre.

The last card that felt genuine fast was the 6800 Ultra back in the day.  I even built a system this year based on one to revisit that nostalgic feeling of gaining few 100% from a system 3 year prior to it. Those were the days when upgrading saw astronomical gains, I miss them so much.

Playing period correct games on it the FPS is far higher than what the games of today on the high end hardware does now if you known what I mean.

When I jumped from a 760 4GB SC to a 980 Ti it made rocket league run at 144fps on the monitor I had just bought.

Going to 144hz in 2015 is what really made hardware feel terrible, up until then I was low end and mid range since 2007.

Speaking of SE performance, I never had a great experience with it until I used my 760 on a 60hz screen, and then the 980 Ti and the 1080 Ti both run it great.

I have only found one game that really runs poorly on my current system, Fallout 4, and that has run terrible on 3 different systems so I don't believe its something on my end.

I went from 9800GTX 3 way SLI to the GTX 980. Was a decent improvement but still didn't play UT4 all that great, I also updated my board and CPU from phenom 1 to late model 8 core FX.  I found majority of the bottleneck was the GPU, tanked in many full mesh maps even on medium detail, CPU usage still remained 50% ish.

SE runs just ok on the UI max settings at 900p but absolutely awful on anything higher via the console.  Re-tested on another system with 6700K and 1080 and it was better but not anywhere near as much as I hoped. That was at 1080p 60hz too, nothing high by today's standards.

Coming from competitive games like the first lot of unreal games and few others that ran at high fps I find anything under 100-120 fps feeling a bit slow, 60 is my lowest limit before I deem it unplayable for a fps game anyway, can tolerate 40-50 for stuff like SE which mine doesn't lol.

Lot of people would say that's excellent but I am pretty sure each individual perceives it differently. For me it feels slow and unresponsive.

So extrapolating to 30% faster of a 1080Ti isn't that appealing to me, certainly not for the $1300 AUD price tag these have here. Not sure what the 2080Ti prices will be like here but if they end up $1500 AUD or less I would consider just because the 1080Ti has never been below 1200 here for the middle quality models period. People complaining the vega prices are bad, they at least dropped to half of the mining boom prices while nvidia cards stayed the same. Vega 64 is just under 800 AUD, they were 1700AUD early in the year.  All of the nvida cards have been sky high for what is now 2 years almost, pre, during and post mining, at least in Australia.

I know the US prices have dropped some, but they haven't moved at all here for nvidia, they have for AMD cards though.

I can second Fallout 4's terrible performance.  However, mines a bit odd.  Runs fine at 120Hz for about a half hour then slowly degrades to a highly unstable 70Hz with jitters and studders everywhere and I'm on a GTX 1080.

more actually. finding aussie retailers are jacking the price up 400-500 AUD over the MSRP
2080 is ~ 1500AUD it should be no more than 1100 AUD including conversion, shipping and import tax.

The 2080 FE which has a approx 150 AUD premium over the AIB cards is in fact 1150 AUD from nvidia's official AU site.

The 2080Ti I am guessing will be 2300-2400 here.  I hate Australian retail with a passion, one of the biggest crooks in the country. All the OEMs do it here as well with around 2.5-3 x the US price for the same item direct from the OEM store.

If I do go for one later on I will be getting it imported myself that's for sure.

Fairly certain Bethesda are renown for their terrible coding, so I'm not surprised.

Yes they are. Patches can help, but when loading large outside environs, Bethesda games will dramatically drop in fps, freeze and even crash completely, despite being run on top-notch machines.

I will wait a while and see how it all pans out.
That's the best course of action.

I had people on the Steam community hub telling me it was a CPU bottleneck and my current CPU and 980 Ti weren't good enough while the same people claiming they had 60fps maxed out "buttery smooth" were rocking older i5s and weaker CPUs.

It is amazing what being a fanboy for one company will have you claiming.
