Possible to Import SE Model Back into Blender?

20 Mar 2022 22:47

Title pretty much says it all, anybody written a model converter yet? (Should such a thing be necessary.)

The online manual shows all needed specifications for the .sm format, but as far as I know a conversion tool doesn't exist yet.

The mesh is pretty scrambled by the sm conversion process, using tools like ninjaripper and others will not work, there are no plans for exporting proprietary models from SE or to offer support for such things.

There is however a ship editor which you can export obj files from using assets from SE.

Was thinking more along the lines of fixing (or trying to) normals on some objects, as well as adding textures (where none exist). Perfectly understandable that no means exist to accomplish that. Starting from scratch it is, then...

Thanks, guys.

Importing models from SpaceEngine (SE) back into Blender can be a complicated task due to SE's proprietary .sm format and the way it handles models.

Does this format take a long time when put into the device?

As it's been explained in previous posts, there are no tools to convert SE shape model proprietary format to other formats.
