Re: Work progress 0.991

Not to sound like a "bootlicker" but I hope many of the people complaining realize that for much of SpaceEngine's development, only *1* person was working on it. Yes, there are more people working on it now than ever before, but development takes time, and SE notoriously takes time to develop. It took 3 years for 0.990 to be developed, so who's to say that we can't wait longer for further developments?

How is the conversion to vulcan going?
Conversion to Vulkan is proceeding well. I don't have details, nor time to completion, though, as per usual.

Regarding the rest, in no particular order:
To be fair, the name for this thread should probably be shortened to "Work progress" only, it would make more sense now.

0.991 version, some of you mentioned, that was available as a beta choice on Steam (it wasn't an alleged fix btw, it was actually fixing the issue), only had the correction of the generation bug causing alternating terra-gas giant sequences, and that's it. Development in the meantime continued, and the fact that correcting that bug means breaking existing saved locations had the developers decide to hold that fix for a much bigger update.

SpaceEngine doesn't really want to mimic other games, otherwise we wouldn't spend development time to transfer scientific knowledge to meaningful code, so saying "SE is going to be obsolete" has no meaning for developers.
And just because NMS was mentioned, I don't think SE will have users teleporting in another place to find their own spaceship magically nearby.
It's a very good program nonetheless, but I'm not sure it will go in the same direction of SpaceEngine.
Or not? Do they share a roadmap with users?

People find in games what they like, the way they like it. Since platformer games and Mario's universes are still a thing after decades, I think there will be always players for SE-based games.

Something else very small I've noticed in recent builds.
Dwarfs that just barely straddle fusion mass used to fall into one of two radically different camps. You would either have a completely black Jupiter, or a spiky wad of mesh. Watching those red stars now. The very, very dim and cold little ones is just utterly breathtaking. The sheer violence and unpredictability of a red dwarf is on full display. Whatever shaderwork is being done on the corona is nothing short of amazing. It feels like it is a real object.

I encourage everyone who reads this to search for Luhman 16A fly up close, set the time scale comfortably high, and watch the corona become a crackling stellar fireplace.

You know, it wouldn't kill you to give some kind of update. Is this project being worked on at all? Last year, we were told to get more frequent updates, and yet here we are with still fewer updates about the progress.

As far as I know, they said the are moving to Vulkan, but I don't know if we have received any updates related to this.

While I'm sure that with "updates" they were referring to program updates, which are indeed more frequent, the conversion to Vulkan is progressing, as I posted few weeks ago. I'm sure that many would like to hear more in-depth descriptions of what devs are doing to translate existing code to Vulkan, and at the same time evaluating different ways to have the code ready and expandable for future needs. Many others would mainly know when it's done, and I have read wild speculations about it. The answer is always the same, the one in the FAQ.
I hope you don't read my answer as annoying, it's just that I can do paraphrasing with the same answer only to an extent. Problem is, if you don't see questions (or emojis) answered, it seems to be seen as bad as repeating the same answer again and again. Unfortunately, devs are not yet available to discuss their work.
