Re: Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

On 2 different Windows PC's, Win 10 Desktop Nvidia RTX4070 graphics card and Dell Inspiron Win 11 laptop, after starting GOG Space Engine once and closing it down, next time you start it there is no main menu and the initial graphics video is frozen. Also there is no sound.

Not sure how to supply log.
The log is called "se.log", a text file contained inside a "system" subfolder of the main spaceengine installation.
Assuming you're using GOG Galaxy client, the main spaceengine folder can be found by selecting the SpaceEngine program, then the "more" button on the top-right corner > Manage installation > Show folder.

The log can be uploaded here from a reply window, by using the "Add files" button below the input area.

A possible reason for this issue could be a damaged configuration file. From the spaceengine main folder, go into the "config" folder and delete "main-user.cfg", and delete the entire "cache" folder. They will be recreated next time the program is launched.

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?  Just downloaded the 99 version and have spent quite a bit of time trying to move around in manual mode.  The velocity is always stuck at 0.00 m/s, no matter what I do.  I can go places using the 'G' key, or using 'goto' in the menu, but I can't actually budge the ship at all manually.  Free or Spaceship mode doesn't matter.  Time is not stuck (I've tried the spacebar).  This is driving me crazy.

I should add that there are two velocities in the HUD.  The one on top seems to be the ship velocity and I can't change that.  When I alter velocities it is always the bottom one.

OK.  The problem seems to be that the ship won't move unless the arrow key is pressed continuously.  Is that the way it is supposed to work?

I've seen a few posts for this on Reddit but I can't find anything in this topic in particular, so I thought I'd post this here. I'm running SpaceEngine on Kubuntu 24.04 via Proton. (Specifically Proton Experimental) The game renders planets just fine as long as I don't visit any planets with textures, i.e. any planets in the solar system. Once I stay around these planets long enough, planet rendering seems to get "stuck" where no more textures will load and SE will stop generating textures for procedural planets, stars, etc.

In this instance, I left the System Viewer open to keep all the solar system planets rendered. This, of course, left all moons except Charon unrendered. After flying around Earth for a bit, I took some screenshots of the casualties:

Note the broken LOD on the city lights comparing Italy and Spain to the Balkans.

Here, you can see moons not rendered in the first level of the Solar System hierarchy are completely black.

Note the low resolution textures here on Mars and Pluto.

Interestingly, ring particles are not affected. It could be that this texture is a generic one that's loaded before you visit any planets, so it never gets bugged out.

My se.log is pasted here:

My system specs are as follows:

I have not experienced this issue before on 0.980 running it on my dual-booted Windows 10 install. I am unsure whether I have experienced this issue running 0.990 on Windows 10, but I will be sure to test this.

More information:

I switched to GloriousEggroll's version of Proton. After flying around the moon for a bit, I then flew out to the TRAPPIST-1 system. Interestingly, planets' water and atmospheres rendered correctly, but terrain was all black. TRAPPIST-1 itself did have a texture.

I've just tested on my Windows 10 installation on the same computer. It's not a Proton issue.

Quick note here: there's this loading wheel on the right side of my screen that never goes away when this issue happens. Also, you can make the textures somewhat come back by changing the LOD settings after it happens... but it's not exactly "fixed":

Just to reiterate, this problem does not occur as long as you avoid the Solar System, but as soon as you enter the Solar System and explore a planet for a few minutes, the game gets stuck like this until you restart.

If you go to the nightside of a planet hot enough to have yellow lava, the system's sun will shine through the ground, but only where the lava glows yellow.

Hello! I noticed that all the water on Earth as well as other marine, oceanic, etc. planets is completely gone? Does anyone know what this is from and how to fix it? Thank you!

The water is hidden as you disabled it by clicking on the water button on the filters toolbar to the right.
