It's good that people post their files in the public domain! Thank you all! I myself tried to put on always popped up what "bugs" now I'm trying to put different mods! And it seems to be getting better! The planets are gradually taking on a new look

Hi.
I just wonder if somebody has the interstellar addon for 0.9.8.0, since the original link is currently unavailable.
Thanks.

Sorry, I've been sidetracked.
It works if you copy the exact name used in catalogs.pak/Exoplanets.sc file:
Remove "Tau Cet g"

{
ParentBody "Tau Cet"

}
Remember that stars and constellations in scripts use a standard 3-letters form for both greek letters and constellation names. It's always a good idea to take a look at the script that generates the star or the planet you want to remove. You can see where an object is scripted by using the debug mode (numpad * )

I would be blown away if someone would create the Viper fighter and the recon Raptor from the Battlestar Galactica series (the newest series); not JUST the ships though but also the cockpit views.  I have a close friend who is a 3-D animator and artist who could probably do this, but he doesn't play video games hardly at all (except for obscure JRPGs).  He would probably be willing to create the assets needed for this, but because I haven't the slightest idea about creating mods and 3-D assets and what not, I would need to be able to convey to him exactly what format would be best for importing into Space Engine as a mod.  So, if anyone is interested in the above suggested mod(s)/addons, please comment so, and I will try to get that ball rolling.
I would like to see TOS Galactica spacecraft as well.

Since there's a pretty useful tutorial on the subject of adding additional material detail textures / biome textures. I've started to work on an advanced materials mod. It would take into consideration the possibility of very rare small terrestial bodies, and metorites that are entierly metalic. And larger bodies that have swaths of exotic minerals, organics, and compounds that can form in large enough concentrations to make a visual impact.

e.g fissures of graphite, olivine, and quartz.
The already existing procedurally generated geographic disconformities, like terraces, mares, craters, and fissures would be able to use a metalic material, as if a deposit was exposed on a very metal-rich world.  Or transparent crystals, and exotic mineral patterns.

I'm not very savy with advanced chemistry. And I'm not certian how abundant or likely these compounds even are in space. So first of all,  I would like to ask. What processes can one expect pure metal in space to undergo, and how would they change the visual properties of the material?

For example. Imagine a hypothetical Core planet, made almost entierly of pure iorn that formed as a result of a collision. It has no atmosphere, and very few impurities, and has since cooled down to ambient temperature.

Would the surface be shiny and reflective; and maintain the original hue, or will there be small oxidization spots as it comes into contact with gas in the stellar medium?

Would it be smooth and circular, or will smaller clumps of unoxidized metal gradually cold-weld themselves into a lump?

here are some of the base material textures I was considering:
(all public domain, sourced from ambientcg)
Image Iorn, pure
Image Iorn, fused, dirty, oxides
Image Copper
Image Copper fused, dirty, oxides
Image Gold

Image Ambiguous alloy No.1

Image Ambiguous alloy No.2

I was wandering. If I were to put the money , time , and developers into it, how hard would it be to do Sim city on earth and other worlds? Like a Sim city universe with mining worlds and trade? Even just as a personal experience game how feasible. What would it take. Especially if I put the money into it.

Space Engine as a TableTop RPG accessory

28 Aug 2024 14:19

I'm a (former) tabletop board game publisher and developer looking to create a space-based tabletop RPG along the lines of "Stars Beyond Number" or "Traveller"...if I ever find the time. I don't think this would be a commercial venture unless there was a lot of interest, otherwise it's just something fun to do for me and my group. I stumbled upon Space Engine when looking for a way to create a 3D map for the game. To say SE is impressive is a bit of an understatement. It's incredible!

I'm wondering if it is possible to hide the metrics for the planets from the viewer, and instead display metrics of my choosing. I haven't started designing the game yet, just the pseudo-science behind humanity's exploration and colonization of roughly 20% of the Milky Way. But I know the planets will likely need at least some attributes along the lines of: Controlling faction, government type, tech level, trade level, current defense level, diplomacy level, types and sizes of various mineral deposits, etc.

It would be awesome if I could create one or more .json files that enumerate these properties and drop them into a local folder. Then I could tell my players to buy SE, and just send them the .json files for the "map" component of the game. I feel it would give the players a lot of context and immersion.

This kind of customization is not possible yet, as there are no APIs right now. Some kind of interaction with the program is possible via scenario scripts. Tutorials in-game are created with SpaceEngine scripting language, for instance, allowing some user / camera interaction. With the help of an external program that creates specific scenario scripts based on user inputs and then runs them in SpaceEngine with a basic call (run SpaceEngine.exe <myscript.se>), I can imagine something feasible.
I made a small companion for SpaceEngine using this idea to add more complex commands, see Spaceengine additional hotkeys here.
To get an idea about the scripting system, see https://spaceengine.org/manual/making-a ... o-scripts/

If you literally used the code for the star "Mono" from the manual https://spaceengine.org/manual/making-a ... ng-a-star/ and placed it into a mystars.sc file, into a addons/catalogs/stars folder , then the star would be there.
May I see your script file?
