Re: General questions about SpaceEngine

I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between your photography and your SpaceEngine replicas.
Here is one picture, centered on 2023.10.23 19:18 UTC:
Image
The little bright spot left to the Great Red Spot is Io, the dark spot right of it is its shadow. The other moon in the upper right is Ganimede.

Here is a little animation from a few pictures:Jupter animated

Here is the same sceen recreated in SkySafary:Image
Almost perfect.
Recreation is Stellarium:Image
Here the rotation, the position of the GRS is a little bit off.

And here is SpaceEngine, the moons are raughly at the same position, but the time is off by about a half an hour (my location is UTC+2 in the summer), and the GRS is on the other side of Jupiter:Image

This doesn't seem to just be a problem with your install, I can confirm it happens on mine as well.

Re: General questions about SpaceEngine

Hello,

I tried to recreate some of my astro photos with SpaseEngine, and I've found that the rotational phase of Jupiter is just not right. It shows the Great Red Spot facing us when it is not, and not facing us when it is.
I just landed on earth at the correct location, and centered Jupiter, and set the date and time. The moons of Jupiter were in the correct position, even the shadow of Io is modelled precisely, but the texture, the rotation phase of Jupiter is off.

Is it a known bug? Can I fix it somehow?

Thanks,
Zoltan
Hi Zoltan.
The reason for the GRS not being in its real position is that Jupiter in SpaceEngine is using a static texture so the GRS and all other weather formations are fixed, and SpaceEngine doesn't update regularly the rotational parameters possibly available from astronomical data services. SkySafary, as far as I can see, does just that.
It will be updated eventually.

Hi I have a Question, actually Two questions
1.Can you transfer data of a newer version of space engine's Data to older versions?
It depends on what version and what kind of data we're talking about. Old legacy versions and the latest version may use different script parameters in catalogs, so they should be modified, manually changing or removing non existing parameters.
If we're talking about high resolution textures, those were updated too and the tiles if I'm not mistaken have different resolution, created with an updated version of the Cubemap utility, so not compatible.
Exporting procedural planet surfaces could work, if using an old Cubemap version. Not sure if there is still one available somewhere in forums.
2.How to space engine showing OpenGL error?

Pls answer

Thanks
If SpaceEngine is showing an OpenGL error at start, usually it means that there are problems with the existing graphics card, or that the graphics card is very old and not supporting current OpenGL version.
To be more specific, the se.log file you can find into the SpaceEngine system folder could give more hints about the issue.

It just says OpenGL error? Does it say something else? We need to see your se.log file that you can find in your <SteamFolder>\steamapps\common\SpaceEngine\system folder, can you upload it here?

Can i make and distribute a game based on space engine with a profit percentage fee?

I've read in the FAQ that currently there is no plans to develop an SDK but that would be a nice revenue stream for the developer and would allow indie developers to step and create wonderful games using the engine.

Thanks

Hello,
I am currently having an issue with the Universe Map...
Per the tutorial(and in general use) the instruction
is to change perspective to Right Click-Drag.
However, this is non functional.

No matter what...I try to Right-Click-Drag while in
the Universe Map...Nothing happens.

I can still zoom in/out and Q/E 'tilts' the map.

Note...the Right-Click-Drag fully works in other
maps/functions in the sim.

Can you assist???

Thank You for your attention to this matter!

Does left-click select objects in Universe Map or do you have issues with that too?
Could you please upload your se.log file, which is located in your <SteamFolder>\steamapps\common\SpaceEngine\system folder?

Left-Click does function in the Universe Map.
I've found that if I 'Reset Settings' I do have Right-Click-Drag
functions in the Universe Map....however with use it does go away.

I'll include the se.log file in my next msg.

I purchased SpaceEngine Pro, and I wanted to pre-load the scene along the way in high quality before recording the video on the specified path, so as to avoid video stammage. Is this feature currently available in SpaceEngine? If not, I hope you can update this content as soon as possible, thank you!

I'm not sure to what this refers to. Could you please share a link to the video?
