General suggestions for SpaceEngine

10 Mar 2019 10:13

i was looking into the TO-DO list before making the suggestion but i haven't found any explicit remark about this except for these next:
 • Holes in the surface (caves, mines)
 • Terramorphing
Perhaps any of these points includes the idea of some planets with abyss? To be honest i'm not sure they are already implemented are they?.. just because i haven't found one.

Abyss in some planets??

10 Mar 2019 12:46

I'm pretty confident that "Holes in the surface" could cover that case, no they're not yet implemented.

HD, I was thinking you could just show the upper limb of the sun turning green for a few seconds just before it sets.

I'd love to see some configurable tonemapping. The one in use has a nice balance between dynamic range and contrast, but it's a master of none.

planets with abyss?
What do you mean?
HD, I was thinking you could just show the upper limb of the sun turning green for a few seconds just before it sets.
And how do you propose we do that? Programming isn't magic, you can't just wave a wand and make something happen. As I already said, what you're asking for would be very difficult to implement.
I'd love to see some configurable tonemapping. The one in use has a nice balance between dynamic range and contrast, but it's a master of none.
There will be more tonemapping options in the upcoming version.

Well, as the sun sets its color already changes, I paused it several times as the last bit is about to go down below the horizon and it turns orange/red, you could just replace that last bit with bright green (the green flash only lasts a few seconds) and then it would disappear below the horizon.

The next version will be a tonemapping bonanza, it has HDR as an option doesn't it?

By abyss I think he means caves, he wants explorable caves on exoplanets.  I could see how that part could be a game in itself with labyrinths that go deep underground where one can get trapped if one takes a wrong turn and forgets how to get back.

Is it possible to have two screens with all the menus and info on one and another without anything other than what must be presented from Space Engine. If it is not possible now, it is something that is easy to program so that it can possibly be included in the new version. I am going to show Space Engine in a presentation on a Cinema hall screen Soon and info and menu I have to use, is annoying for the audience. They need the full Cinematic epic experience, Space Engine is so famous for

How about a mechanic where the player can take 'photographs' in game and they are scored based on what's in the image + maybe composition and stuff? Kind of like a Pokemon Snap mechanic. That could bring up informational tooltips with info on the stuff in the image you just took.

For example I just took this one as a demonstration
[img][/img]
Which you could have say,
30 points - 3 * Celestial Bodies
100 points -  Planet with life
50 points - Mountain range
200 points - Planetary Rings
100 points - Luminous Galactic Band
---------
480 points - Good Photo!
Did you know: In 2013 astrophysicists predicted that there are 40 Billion Planets in the Milky Way that could support life

or something like that but with more effort ;)

Could be a cool way to integrate social media too with image sharing but that's not something I'd care too much about.
I also think tooltips by themselves would be a neat way to seamlessly educate people on unintuitive space phenomena like Red/Blue Shift or Opposition surge etc.

Oh, I found that many of SE's known stars seem to be wrong, and there will be red supergiants with a mass of 300 times the sun and a radius of hundreds of AU (which obviously violates the stellar evolution model), hopefully the next version will be repaired.

That's why SpaceEngineer asked for help in this thread: COMMUNITY ADDON - Catalog Fixes for SE.

There's no magic trick to correct wrong data from HIPPARCOS.csv catalog, for example.
When users spot a specific error in a star, better if they use that thread and specify which star has the issue, or that needed information will be obviously lost. Providing a small script to correct the issue would be wonderful.

Can there be a chance for there to be ringed asteroid generation? I would like objects reminiscent of solar system objects, like mooned asteroids or ringed ones.

This is caused by atmospheric extinction, it's a direct consequence of atmospheric scattering. It is totally unrelated to the green flash and cannot be repurposed for that.

It already is HDR, it has been for years.

It's not possible now, and would not be easy to include in the new version at this point. It is planned though.

Ok, nice! I have a few ideas:
-T-Tauri stars with disks around them, along with some brown dwarfs with rings.
-Exotic Life subclasses for planets, examples being "Exotic silicon" depending on the planet's temperature, size and composition.
-More planet classes.

Work progress 0.990

How about adding Thorne-Zhitkow objects and quazi stars into SE. What do you think? Also anybody wants gas dwarfs in SE (some sort of oceania with really thick hydrogen atmosoheric layer)?

Oh, and I want the current script format to be compatible with .990, I am making a really large addon.
