General suggestions for SpaceEngine

25 Sep 2018 04:47

I need help for the compatibility of this program, i would like for an update that will be more compatible to lenovo and acer laptops, because the program has problems of incompatibility with the device... That's all
We are not aware of compatibility issues involving specific brands of laptops. Feel free to ask for help in Troubleshooting and bug reports, by describing your issue in detail. See first post of the same thread and related suggestions.

If these laptops of which you speak only have integrated Intel graphics cards, then they will not work well with SpaceEngine. If they have AMD or Nvidia cards (maybe switchable) then they should work with SE. Even though they may not be very fast. PC's at the same price are probably faster.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

29 Sep 2018 11:28

Hello. Our congratulations from ACS for this project.

Our suggestion here is that there is a possibility of linking the exploration system with Google Maps. So in the maps mode, as you gradually move away from the Earth, you can go to the SpaceEngine visualization.

The next suggestion we make is that there is a display system of potentially habitable confirmed exoplanets.
Finally, we would appreciate that the project integrate a section of social connectivity for some institutions and research groups in the future.

Thank you very much for your attention.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I'd like the "go to" function (go to an object by pressing G) to be modified so that if the distance to be traveled is 1 AU or less, the travel time defined by LongGoToTime in main-def.cfg is multiplied by 0.5, and if the distance is 1 Mpc or greater, the travel time is multiplied by 1.5.

One thing I think that could help enhance SpaceEngine's modability, would be some new parameters for user-main.cfg, where the modder can tell SpaceEngine how often or not to use "fun" atmosphere colors (like green, violet, etc). This can be especially useful for mods depicting sci fi universes known for worlds with fun sky colors.

And, one thing I think that is sorely needed, especially considering custom atmospheres are no longer permanently etched into a graphics card's memory, is allowing custom/addon atmosphere models to show up on procedural worlds too. This mainly because certain Zenith/Horizon/Sunset color combinations were nearly impossible to achieve with just the Hue and Saturation parameters alone.

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

Suggestion1: Although the atmosphere and environment as well as the texture of the planets are astoundingly beautiful, 2D clouds ruin the view.
I am sure this will be worked upon, but volumetric clouds are a must for such a unic simulator; we need the clouds to be as beautifull as everything else is.

Suggestion2: I have noticed that when entering a black hole while looking back, I am able to see a box of brighter colours than the surroundings (usually it appears at a certain angle range, which takes away a bit of the immersion.

Suggestion3: When close to any planet's surface, the glare of the nearest star disappears when looking at 90° (directly above you as you stand on the planet's surface) toward the star. The glare also completely disappears when being slightly above the planet's surface and looking directly at the star.
This leaves me with the view of the star being completely "visible" like a white unrealistic circle in the sky.

*I had 1 suggestion, and 2 glitch reports, but why not put it all in one.

Thank you! I hope you'll be able to fix this stuff! This simulator captures the true beauty of the universe!

I would very much like to see variable stars. Periodic change of their radius and temperature (therefore, luminosity) might be a good start. (Which would require periodic change of corona radius, surface features and many other parameters, when I think about it).

Different kinds of variable stars like Cepheids or RR Lyrae are periodic, but eruptive flare stars like Proxima Centauri, or white dwarf novae are not.

There already is one type of variable stars, eclipsing binary. However, total brightness of the system does not change during an eclipse. Magnitudes of the orbiting planets change, but they drop by 30+ magnitudes...

Speaking of binary stars, I think tidal distortion of the stars' shape will be implemented (I may be mistaken, but I remebmer reading about it somewhere), like filling the Roche lobes, egg-shaped stars (or also planets and moons?), or contact binaries.

Edit: Not related to variable stars, but is it possible to implement lunar/planetary eclipse colors based on the eclipsing body's atmosphere?

Ok...my suggestion has to do with the fact not everyone likes of flying ships using Newtonian Physics: why I cannot fly a ship in the Free Mode? I never was able to learn how to fly a ship using the controls available in the game and the few tutorials on YouTube are too complicated to my taste.

why I cannot fly a ship in the Free Mode
Open the console, ( ~ key), then enter:

enablecheats

It will enable a "cheats" button in your Spacecraft Manager. You can activate all those controls and see if it suits you.

Having a spaceship moving like a camera in free mode it's a bit weird, in my opinion.

The flight school manual ( http://spaceengine.org/manual/space-flight-school/ ) could certainly appear intimidating, but it takes by hand whoever follows it precisely.
It would be good to know at which point in particular can be confusing.

Everything is confused! I never played any game featuring Newtonian Physics where I don't use the mouse to control the ship, so all those controls look very intimidating.

Those cheat codes are worthless! I see now I am condened to play this simulator in Free Mode or worse, to uninstall it from my PC.

If the only reason for you to play this game is to fly in a simple way with spaceships, then this program is really not for you.
(But I have to admit, for me the spaceship control is also too complicated. And I'm too old to learn such complicated controls yet.)

Dramatic response apart, on a personal level I can understand. I bought Elite Dangerous yet I hardly played with it for the same reason.
I can't help here, though, because I always used W, A, S, D controls and the numeric pad in Space Engine, as it's suggested in the manual.
Maybe there is someone else willing to share their experience in piloting ships with other controls. I don't find a specific thread about controls, it could be useful.

Maybe, if SE had support for Xbox controls, I think I would still have problem with this -- but who knows?

I saw a black hole shader demonstration on Shadertoy website. Can this effect be added to Space Engine in the future?
I have attached a link.
