Sitting in a ring system with time slowed down to around 0.001 is very soothing, like watching snow fall. Yes, fast temporal rendering at low quality makes me feel like I'm playing the original version of Doom, but I appreciate Space Engine for accommodating users with low-performance GPUs as much as possible.

Post more views from the surface of a ring particle!

It's a different experience, isn't it?

Well done, Vlad. Bravo!

Looks like it is being torn apart?  Does the system have any planets?
In fact, yes. The second picture is taken from the planet in the system closest to the sun. But even the furthest planet gets to as hot as 1000 degrees...
Literally scorched
It's in 0990? Do you have the name for it? I would like to explore!
Very unfortunately, since for some reasons I had to re-install SE, all my custom locations are now gone. Hopefully we will find another one like this, but I can't send you that location now because I don't have it anymore.

I want to fly through them without crashing!  Can it be done?

Now... I understand all the ring particles currently still orbit at the same speed. Does anybody know what that speed might be? Outer edge of the ring? Inner edge? Middle/average?

The speed isn't the same across the whole ring, as described in one of the blog posts, the ring is divided in a few thousand parts and each part rotates at the adequate speed.
It's described here in the "Differential rotation" part.

Ah! Cool. I read that (when it was first posted here), and for some reason came away with "for now, all the particles rotate as one solid ring". Really need to work on my reading comprehension! :o

Thanks! More pics if I get into the rings at a reasonable relative velocity. :)

Edit: Oh, of course! I should try and rendezvous with a shepherd moon! I've done that plenty of times in 980.
