Strange sightings

RS 8474-1353-8-11843531-674 is a planemo with 3 moons, the weird part is that it is being lit by its closest moon. I even bookmarked as "How?"
This is a 0.980 find by the way.
Tidal heating probably. The closest moon is hot enough from that to glow and that illuminates the rest (out to a specific range at least). I could find them quite often using the search engine so they weren't uncommon.

Unfortunately (?) I think this is no longer possible in 0.9.9.0 (or at least they're not showing up in the search engine anymore).

Yeah, I suspected that when I saw a post with a similar thing going on.
With the amount of bizarre creatures on Earth, I doubt aliens would look like humans with skull deformations or skin conditions.

Earth's current texture map has a few interesting things going on with it...

Just checked out DoctorOfSpace's Terraformed Mars addon and found this interesting phenomenon when the textures load. I have a feeling this also happens on other planets with specified bump maps but procedural surface maps.

Yes, but exoplanets use procedurally generated terrain with a set palette. For example, if you're on a planet with mainly green grass, it may be impossible to find any blue foliage. Earth however uses a texture map with a palette defined by said texture map, so it's a lot easier to find colour oddities like these. Hopefully Vladimir doesn't patch them out.

Strange sightings

Hi there

I'm new to this forum and I already searched for my topic, but didn't find anything, thats why I'm here.

On my quest for life in the universe, I discovered this strange moon around the planet of a real star (HIP 2556 5.2). It's strangely covered by something black on the hemisphere which lies in the direction of travel in it's orbit around the gas giant, quite similar to Saturns moon Iapetus. But the coloring switch very abruptly.
It also says there's multicellular life. Is this some strange planet spaning organism or just a graphics glitch? Anybody ever discovered something similar?

It's a known bug involving tidal locked planets.

Strange sightings

I keep getting strange lighting artifacts close to the ground on planets with atmospheres. It's much more noticeable with the right conditions, such as this canyon at sunset. Perhaps it has to do with my settings.

The second images shows the terrain "pinching" which seems to be somewhat common, but this one especially stands out to me because it was on a volcano.

Lastly, behold: the popcorn asteroid.

Ooope! A slight autopilot error. Not to worry, folks, we'll have it sorted out in a few trillions years... :)

I found an active volcano with a snowcap on it. Not sure if this is normal or not but I've never seen it before

Version 0.990, RS 8496-2265-7-1556412-527 2. There's a lot of other capped volcanoes on the planet but none of them have lava as far as I can tell

So I was exploring a supermassive black hole system at the centre of a galaxy and found this.
scr00074.jpg
It's an Orange Dwarf star that orbits a black hole that is nearly 300 AU in diameter.
scr00075.jpg
As you can see the black hole outshines the small star massively, and turning down the exposure reveals that the star is reflecting the light, much like a planet. That crater-looking formation in the picture is a sunspot.

Here is the image with default brightness (on HDR)

hey the planet near the supermassive black hole in your previous post, is that in .990? Do you have its name I would like to fly to it.

It's been a while since I went there so the original co-ordinates are now lost, however, you can do this with any star orbiting a large black hole, such as this one:
Place "Star reflecting light near Supermassive Black Hole"
{
 Ver 990
 Body "RSC 10416-4041-0-0-0 S18"
 Parent "RSC 10416-4041-0-0-0 S*"
 Date "2022.03.21 09:17:55.39"

 Pos (-E1D6F60004573A00C870642381C +1EB4D9C008378996B35CAF17F66 -CD42B8FFF7F1D93D946DC288CE3)
 Rot (0.7556911732113589 -0.6545674226703417 -0.002975052634055878 -0.0215287939971353)
 Vel 1.4551284e-07
 Stereobase 1
 BindMode 1
 PhotoMode 2
 Exposure 0
}
This may not work if you have any Galaxy addons installed.
