No but that seems like a fascinating series!  The one I am thinking of was contained in two large (1,000 page!) books and started at the beginning of the universe.  I wish I could remember its name.  It's on wikipedia somewhere (thats where I originally found it.)

I found this interesting bit of astronomy related to the Lensmen series.

Could intuitive AI generate realistic procedural alien life? This certainly seems like the right path:

take a spore like approach to procedural life, with pre-made creatures, and don't show them on the surface only show them in a screen in which people can view what creatures are on the planet.

That's going to be very difficult if procedural life requires dual titan rtx's to run.

I believe that the plant color for planets in space engine is completely wrong. When it is around A class stars and such, it should be whiter, and maybe in the next update it could be improved?

You aren't wrong about white plants around A stars.  I did not include them as A stars simply do not live long enough to produce multicellular plant life in SE and probably IRL.  The only case where white plants would appear in SE is around some hot white dwarfs which even then is very uncommon.  It also wreaks havoc with the material system on planets as it makes ice and ice caps have plant textures which is the other reason I didn't include them.

Those detail textures really close to the terrain.  It is difficult to make white plants without affecting ice due to the way the palettes work.  I have been tinkering but nothing too useful yet.

What about for stars hotter than A0 or for planets in multiple star systems that are of different colors?

Plants just become white above F0 stars so, plants around an A or an O star won't look much different.  Not that there will be plants on those planets as A stars and above do not live long enough for multicellular life to arise.  Especially B and O stars as they might not live long enough for life at all.   As for multiple stars, the answer is well, who knows but, plant life probably adapts to the star that is giving the planet the most light for the most part.

Again, the reason I didn't include white plants is because no stars that are above F5V support multicellular plant life (in SE) and the fact the white plants mess with the material system in SE and I haven't figured out a workaround yet.

Could a planet with life under an A0 sun look like this?

scr00272 (2).jpg
Or rather like this:

scr00270.jpg
Apart from the fact that the sea probably under an A0 Sun does not look like that either.
(Of course, the planet did not evolve naturally, but became terraformed. (Do not ask me why, but the planets of the Firefly universe are in the system of an A0 Sun.))

Pretty much what I think it would look like, maybe a bit more of a brighter white. Don't know about the ocean.

Ocean color is only affected by absorption and whatever contaminates it.  The result is similar to Rayleigh scattering so oceans would still be blue.  Different ocean colors will only really arise in oceans that have a lot of stuff dissolved in them.

Once James-Webb launches, we will be able to better observe exoplanets. Maybe we will find even more signs of life, and that might make it easier to add more astrobiology to SE if we can get a better understanding. Trees seem cool, maybe as an optional feature / add-on if someone wants to make that. Can you add models to planets with addons?
