SpaceEngine clogged my hard drive (C:)

25 Feb 2020 04:25

On December 2019 i've got both new gaming computer and SpaceEngine 0.990 on Steam, It run SpaceEngine so well and faster without fps lag on my new computer but there's a problem with SpaceEngine as SpaceEngine clogged my primary hard drive C: (118 GB) i think it's because of procedural generation?

- Before SpaceEngine running - 107 GB available on primary hard drive C:
- After SpaceEngine running - 59 GB available on primary hard drive C:

My Steam and SpaceEngine installations are on secondary hard drive D: but it's still clogged on my primary hard drive C: when i'm running SpaceEngine

Is there's way to change location of procedural generation files to secondary hard drive D: (3 TB)?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure that procedural systems do not use any memory on the hard disk at all.
The only space occupied by SpaceEngine - apart from the program data - on the hard disk is in the 'cache' folder, which is in the SpaceEngine directory. That may be a few hundred megabytes. (It should be deleted now and then.)
So if you think that suddenly you are missing several gigabytes of free space on your C: partition, it can't be due to SpaceEngine.
(In any case, I have not yet noticed any such problem.)

Sounds like typical Windows cache file at work.

The file size sounds about right for ultra textures.  I have a 500 GB C drive and I dont have a problem with SE using around 80 GB of space.....I only keep a few programs on my C drive.

My SE install takes up 54GB with all the texture packs added.

But these textures are stored in 'SpaceEngine\addons'. And he says that he has Steam and SpaceEngine on drive 'D:'. So these textures should also be saved to 'D:'.

C'mon guys... Windows page file.
(That's what I meant to say the first time, and I'm sticking to that story...)

I would also check for windows error logs. I once had a laptop of a work mate's with win 10 that was generating multi GB error log files and it completely filled the C drive in a few days.  Never worked out what caused them but deleting them at least made the laptop run normal again.

Update:

Just found it was McAfee LiveSafe (antivirus software) that made clogged my C: hard drive when SpaceEngine is running I've removed McAfee from my computer, restarted my computer and played SpaceEngine no clogs more!

I didn't install it as McAfee LiveSafe just came pre-installed when i got my new gaming computer on December 2019
