Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

14 Dec 2018 21:13

Jack, THanks for the response and the screenshots. The problem is that i had not expected all the super details where i could see every single stone :) I know the limitations. The thing is i'd like to see some difference at all but i still cant. Take a look:

Not sure if this is something even remotely close to your detailed pic unless someone could confirm this is in fact something i should see.

The thing is i'd like to see some difference at all but i still cant.
As I said, the textures of Io, the original and the HD, both have the same level of detail. They are both 8 megabytes in size.
The difference is only in the image format. The original textures are '.jpg' (compression with quality loss), the HD textures are '.png' (compressed lossless).
You will not be able to see any real difference.
(By the way, my pictures were from Mars, if you did not recognize it. They should show that if you load planets with larger packs, you will see a difference.)

They show a very slight detail difference, is that going from default to HD or going to ultra?

How much of a difference do you see on earth landscapes going from default to ultra?

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0
[ref]yax[/ref], please use https://pastebin.com/ to post your se.log file, which is located in your SpaceEngine/system/ folder, and give us here the address of the file. I had issues too with Quadro before.
OK the pastebin is here

I hope that helps cause the video was great to that point.

getting that I realized I had the space engine in the folder "Program Files" not "Program Files (x86)" it was an oversite when installing thinking it was 64 bit program but then once installed it worked. This is on my smaller teraquad drive. but not on the made os 500 gig drive. It is a disk and not solid state as well ...
thank you.

That seems like a pretty big difference!  Can structures like the Grand Canyon and volcanoes and forests be seen too, JD?
It's just hard for me to download all those files, it would be much easier if it was all in one file.
Also, does it slow down loading times as well as cause any lag to run those, JD?

Here's the Grand Canyon in UltraHD.

Whether SE is slower with the hires textures, I do not know. I do not pay attention to something like that.

Wow that is pretty!  I wonder if we can use SE to discover new craters on the planet, like some have used Google Earth.  In default mode you cant see any of that near where the Grand Canyon is supposed to be?

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

16 Dec 2018 04:55

Thanks yax.
Sometimes windows 10 has been picky about the location of SpaceEngine installation, causing permission issues with some files, so I tend to use a folder created manually in a disk where I place the installation when asked, that is, I avoid \Program Files*\. There's no sign of these possible issues in your log though, so doing that could not be a solution.

Se.log file is generated anew by SpaceEngine every time it runs. Your log indicates that you possibly removed some addon from the previous run ([MT] WARNING: LoadUserConfig(): Unknown reference body "", using universal coordinates) so the program recreates its custom filesystem structure. It also forced a rewrite of cache files.
It shouldn't create issues, but just in case I would close and run the program again to minimize the workload of the program in a single session.

Then there's the graphic card driver. Yours was released in September (R390 U8, Optimal Drivers for Enterprise) and a release note says that the driver in Windows 10 has known issues for at least one program working with OpenGL. SpaceEngine is based on OpenGL so it's possible that some driver issue could cause that too.

I see newer drivers for your card (411.95). they still declare those OpenGL issues, but I'd give it a try anyway, usually having updated drivers helps with SpaceEngine. You could even try with QNF (Quadro New Feature) drivers, which I gather they are beta releases for next driver updates.
Nice desktop background.
--
Edit:
I see in QNF drivers page that for OpenGL issues they also advice a roll back to driver version 385.90 so that's a last option too.

I dont see a thread for this so I will ask it here- is there a way to cap fps on space engine?  I tried using Nvidia Inspector to do it, but it isn't working.  Does the program need to be running full screen in order to do this?  I also have Afterburner/RTSS in case I need to alter a setting there.

You can limit the frame rate in RTSS:

Thanks Jack it worked!

A different issue now-- I installed your Krypton and Nightfall addons and it modified something but I dont know what or how.  Procedural stars not in clusters appear as normally, but the stars and planets I saved in the 47 Tucanae system including a really neat system with a blue supergiant and a black hole and planets disappeared :(  How do I get them back, Jack?  Procedural stars not in that cluster along with their planets show up normally, but the systems I saved from in that cluster, when I try to go to them it says "Object Not Found."

I can not retrace that. My scripts usually do not change anything on the system. The cause of your problem must be elsewhere.
Could you post your se.log?

Yes and it's weird that only one star cluster would be affected.  I went to the 47 Tucanae star cluster and it's still there but the numbering is slightly different for the procedural stars and when I adjusted the number of the system I had found previously, I found a primary star of the exact same spectral type, but now it's a triple star system instead of the double and there is no black hole component and the planets are entirely different :(

How do I upload se.log, it says file too big?  There are no additional console errors.
