Re: Artist Rendition-Accurate Exoplanets

11 Jul 2023 03:58

Can you take an artist rendition and put in on a planet in Space Engine?
i have since learnt that its unfortunately not possible to apply custom textures to planets, you just have to rely on the procedural generation. oh well, maybe thats something for 1.0 and later versions
Well that sucks. I still want to know how to edit the exoplanets to make them look accurate to the illustrations.
The manual explains exactly how to apply custom textures to planets. It's not like dragging and dropping a texture on a planet, but you need to use a scripting language. After all, all main objects of the solar system do use textures instead of procedural surfaces. what you can't do is applying a texture on an existing procedural planet and keeping their name and place in the universe, that too is explained in the manual.

Woah, that looks complicated. But I guess I'll give it a shot.
