It's supposed to be in the teens here on Thanksgiving- brrrrr! Maybe the coldest one in recorded history, it would be temps around -10C in NYC. Thats a week after we got our earliest ever 6 inch snowstorm!

I guess I'm the main provider of fireball videos for national TV. There's something spectacular once a year at most, so It's not a full time job, yet.
This image, however, was something I posted on fb, and the weather presenter asked me if she could use it. The somebody sent me an sms notifying me that it had actually been used (I rarely watch TV myself).
I attempted to get some halo shots with the moon last night, but conditions were less favourable. Only tangent arcs were visible with the help of snow cannons. Here's the lower tangent arc.
My 'letter to the editor' was published in this months Astronomy magazine issue. Not a really huge personal achievement of course, but it's still nice to see your name in print in your favorite magazine.
I love that magazine! I have been reading it since middle school lol. In 8th grade I remember learning from it the four different types of black holes and then having to make a presentation in front of the class for 30 minutes completely impromptu because the teacher caught me reading the magazine during my science class lol.
Yes! I still have their big poster they sent out to subscribers a few years back it's a depiction of the entire universe on a giant 5 foot long spread lol.
Not too cold. A few degrees below 0C. Maybe -10 at night.
The frost can grow fairly thick in that area, which is in a stream valley that is quite moist and also never gets direct sun this time of year. It's probably about a week straight of frost growth there now. In some of the valleys the crystals can reach several centimeters long covering everything. Quite beautiful.
