Winter is coming.

I love how winter doesn't just move southward -- it also moves downward in elevation. It's always there, if you go high enough.

Here it's hovering around 1800 meters, but marching lower every week.

Where I live in Oslo, the first snow usually comes in late October but then almost always melts again. It tends to stay around the turn of November and December, but sometimes not until late December. This week there was some snow above 500 masl around Oslo, but just a dusting that quickly melted away. The earliest snow I've experienced around Oslo was 6th September 1985. The latest 1st June 2012 (but 12th June 1981 had snow which I can't remember). The highest peaks in southern Norway around 2400 masl can have snow in any month. I've seen fresh snow on the beaches in July and August, but that was at 79 degrees north.

Correction: without our axial tilt and trigonometrically spherical planet, nature would be very dull. I mean, you know, if we are going to be specific. Oh yes, and for weather: our atmosphere, oceans, mountains and plants. And humans.

While driving shortly after sunset today, I couldn't miss the sight of the red moon just above the horizon, and the first thing I see in the forum shortly after is the same, red moon.

More tilted, though. Somewhat similar atmospheric conditions, apparently.

This weekend was quite sunny and beautiful for me, the scenery around where I live singularly picturesque. I thought I might share my stunning and exceptionally boring pictures of... leaves! Not on interesting trees, nor in majestic landscapes. Just vanilla maple leaves. Well look, they're yellow... and stuff.
