Indeed... I think that's the fun part of it. It's mostly speculation at this point, so you can say anything and it's hard to disprove. I hope future humans will have the tools to actually understand and verify some of these theories.

I'll go off on a limb and tell you exactly what my own "Theory" is. 

Existence itself exists because it is ultimate "consciousness" toying with the idea of irreversible change. As far as we know, Time only goes in one direction and cannot be reversed. Through the change that happens in the Universe, there is novelty. It is that which ultimate Consciousness is experimenting with. 

Physical matter doesn't exist without Consciousness observing it in some form. It is like a game, in where only the parts that you interact with are simulated. Otherwise there is no point for it to exist, if there is no player/observer. 

I don't tend to think it is all just material grit smashing itself together and somehow consciousness arrives from it. Without Consciousness, without the Observer, there is nothing. No matter. No space. No time. It is the inverse, where Consciousness gives itself the illusion of matter, individuated "isolated" beings (humans, Aliens, whatever is self aware). Essentially we are all part of it, individuated aspects of it, experiencing itself. 

At least that's just my two cents, for whatever it is worth. This forum will be locked in a few days, so I figured I'll get my thoughts out there before it gets archived.
