It's because you are not pointing in the same direction you are travelling. Follow the velocity vector.

Another option — drop out of warp and use the Orbit HUD mode.

The view is simply breathtaking from this distance, should I stop here? scr05480.jpg Might be even more so a little closer... (I have noticed that pressing "4" does not always revert to controlling the ship in 990. You have to bring up the ship menu and select the ship you want again (if ...

Yes, it does work. How is it I'm flying back and forth all over the galaxy if it doesn't work? The way to change the heading of the ship is with the main engines. But it takes time to do that. That's all moving the velocity vector is, a change of direction of the ship travel. (Same ship in that pic ...

The button on the bottom right that says "Hyperjump". That's the "Warp to Target" button. Turn that thing on and let it do its thing. 990-00281.jpg You'll see how SE turns the ship in a particular direction and accelerate in order to put the velocity vector on the target. When SE...

37499 The speed isn't the same across the whole ring, as described in one of the blog posts, the ring is divided in a few thousand parts and each part rotates at the adequate speed. It's described here in the "Differential rotation" part. Ah! Cool. I read that (when it was first posted he...

Now... I understand all the ring particles currently still orbit at the same speed. Does anybody know what that speed might be? Outer edge of the ring? Inner edge? Middle/average?

37496 As you can see from my screenshots, my velocity vector and target are one and the same aren't they?  Otherwise I don't know how to rotate towards the velocity vector, there is no option to do that. The red marker points to your target. It appears to be off screen on the port side. Blue marker...

I'm not too familiar with all the ins and outs of the warp drive with 990. I did just try a quick trip though. Completely on autopilot, only about 52 light years or so. One thing to keep in mind, the efficiency of the warp drive depends on the direction you are pointing relative to your real space v...

No idea. Never seen that happen in 980, and I haven't done any inter-galactic flights in 990. And as far as I've seen., when using the warp autopilot, the main engines are never on when in warp (unless I turn them on). Maybe something new with 990. With the warp autopilot, all you have to do is sele...

37472 The camera thing is more of a challenge, I'm trying to visualize where I want the cameras to be placed.  Do the other properties in your camera post apply to both 980 and 990?  About rotation and direction of the camera? Yes, pretty much the same. You will see a check box for "Edit behin...

Just use time acceleration? I don't entirely understand why you don't use it to setup your trips as it would solve almost of your problems. This is sound advice. If all you are doing is travelling between galaxies, there's really nothing to go awry when speeding up time (as long as you slow it down...

I'm not sure about the folder structure of the ship you might want to edit, but I just had a quick look at the Shift-F2 ship editor panel in 990 — some nice improvements in there. Anyway... I tried it with the default Skylone, but that is a ship included with SE, so shows up in the default spacecraf...

The autopilot will setup a relative velocity of 10 km/s in the appropriate direction, and then engage the warp drive. I believe a "WarpBoostLog" of 12 (warp engine strength in the ships *.sss file) will give an effective velocity of about 1 light-year per second by default. This will take ...

37462 Wait, since I'm on autopilot won't the ship just slow down automatically? That does mean I have to do a third video for braking lol.  Question, how come I don't see stars whizzing by like I see in Planetarium mode? They seem like they're blurry and just frozen in place? I remember I was in wa...
