The Future of Humanity & Intelligent life in the universe

No matter how you look at it, if AI happens it will solve all problems, either by actually solving them or killing everyone.  Win-win really I like the way you think lol- either way the universe wins. AI has to be better than humanity because humanity is too addicted to greed and power (see my supe...

General global warming / climate chage discussion

I don't see any good reason to make the world more populous outside of what the religious fanatics say- and I tend to think oppositely of them so that's a no go :P  More people= worse for the environment, more pollution, higher stress levels, etc. One other thing we didn't address is the impact of p...

Maybe it's a time to upgrade the motherboard? I know this also mean upgrade CPU and RAM, but anyway... Question, is it a bad idea to be using the internet while running SE at the same time?  I get vast slow downs in surfing when I run them together, of course I use three different browsers at the s...

Science and Astronomy Questions

haha thanks, I was looking around for some menu option to do that :P  Does that setting get saved or does it always default back to 45 degrees after restart? One other thing with respect to navigation.  If I'm on a planet and want to scan around the horizon is there a way to keep the horizon straigh...

My SE settings

Anistropy- 16, since AF does not really impact the graphics card Antialiasing 2x, I tried 4x but menus became slow FXAA, Dithering both set to on Aurora and Ship Warp quality set to high Black Hole quality low since higher levels caused problems with scrolling (high CPU impact.) LOD 0.0 because high...

My SE settings

I set the resolution to 800x600 and turned sounds off (by setting volume to 0).  All other settings are at default besides Graphics settings which are as follows

Science and Astronomy Questions

There are some images of exoplanets out there- but they look look only slightly bigger than little dots- then again, that's all Pluto was to us for a long time.

BTW how do I zoom in on planet landscapes in SE? Or in general, how do I change the angle of view?  The default is 45 degrees I believe.

The new article  is out, with measurement of masses of all planets using combined Kepler and Spitzer data. Outer planets became much less massive then thought before. Planet h is just 7 masses of Ganymede - smaller than Mars (although error is 100%). Densities of all outer planets are less than 2, ...

Space chats with your friendly neighbourhood anthropologist!

Space is something I've been interested in as a little child.  It's all about learning.  I like learning about anything but there is something very pure about space that puts it beyond what we humans have done to our environment here at home.  I am a big astronomy buff like many here so SE is just a...

SpaceEngine F.A.Q.

Will the current and future versions of SE fit into most laptop models, just like on the desktop computers? As long as those have enough hard drive space and Windows 10. ...and a robust video card with 2GB VRAM or more, as mentioned in website. My notebook model, described in signature, has 40-60 f...

Man, those are 5 years-old GPUs. Why not buy some GTX 1060? 580 is much faster than 730:  link , and 1.5 GB is enough for SE, if you will not use LOD 1. Problem is that my motherboard is not compatible with anything newer than PCI-e 2.0  The GT 730 was actually the last PCI-e 2.0 GPU made- from 201...

General global warming / climate chage discussion

Oh, were you talking about acid rain?  Our own factories in NY were doing that and it caused a huge die off of fish in local lakes where the lakewater's pH was lowered.  We changed our emission laws to fix that.  It wasn't Europe's fault, it was our own polluted factories doing it.
