General 0.9.9.0 Discussion

To tell you the truth, I’ve never been more excited for an update in my life.
To be honest that's how I feel about each new version. One of the main reasons I play the Powerball/Mega Millions every drawing is to completely fund Space Engine's development.

I know it's a silly question but how much of a performance hit should I expect when the next version drops? I think my system specs are in my signature but in case it's not.

i7 7700 stock frequency obviously since it's a non K SKU
GTX 1060 6gb
16 GB DDR4 @2400 mhz.

Why is Nvidia recommeded over AMD GPU's?

I was a little drunk when I posted this and I apologize if I came across as obtuse or brash. I just remember in the old forum a lot of people were encouraging people to go Nvidia over AMD. I am no fanboy by any means as you can see in my signature my current build is a Intel/Nvidia based platform an...

Why is Nvidia recommeded over AMD GPU's?

Also even old Bulldozer AMD CPU's ran this just as well if not slightly better then a Kaby Lake 7700. I don't understand the AMD hate here or in the previous forum.

Why is Nvidia recommeded over AMD GPU's?

After years with Space Engine the system I built before this one with a R9 290 ran Space Engine just as well as a Nvidia card of the same class (GTX 1060 6gb) So why is it in this forum and the old websites forum swears that Nvidia GPU's are the best. After 3 gaming rigs A good GPU whether it be Nvi...

A bit of hardware insight I've found using SE that may help in future PC builds.

@Gnargenox. Unfortunately there has been quite a GPU shortage right now and the prices are sky high if you can even find one. For example my GPU the GTX 1060 6gb was around $299 last year when I got it, the same GPU now is selling for over $500 second hand online. When everything does go back to nor...

A bit of hardware insight I've found using SE that may help in future PC builds.

@Gnargenox. The GPU in your desktop is terrible and the one in your laptop is much better. The GT 730 was a very low end card meant for mostly video streaming and not 3D applications which is also several years old at this point. The 950m is much newer and much better suited for 3D applications. So ...

A bit of hardware insight I've found using SE that may help in future PC builds.

I've been using Space Engine for years now starting with a system with just basic integrated graphics to a few high end gaming builds. One thing I discovered is Space Engine loves processing threads. The reason I felt the need to post this is I recently upgraded from 3 different CPU's with very diff...

How about 'Jovian' instead of 'Jupiter?'

Also forgive as I have not figured out to edit posts here yet but I also wanted to add the edit that I understand that Titan's are not being eliminated but being classified as oceanic worlds now. I just always liked that they fell into a class of their own.

How about 'Jovian' instead of 'Jupiter?'

I for one am not a new fan of the new planetary class names. I think that adding the two new world types are awesome along with combining Oceania's and Ice Worlds and giving us oceanic compositions but I really dislike bunching Selena's, Deserts and Terra's into one class and the elimination of Tita...

Work progress - 0.9.9.0

I too have also noticed that Space Engine uses as much vram as possible. It used all 4gb's on my R9 290 and uses all 6gb's of my GTX 1060. My question is how SE handles cpu cores as I noticed very different situations with different platforms, for example my i5 7500 crushes SE and never drops FPS ev...

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I would like to see more diversity in irregular galactic models as seen in Krexitt's galaxy mod. (Would be using it but it causes crashes for me) But I am also aware that this probably wont happen until galaxies are procedurally generated.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

I do the same thing, I find it slightly annoying that the mag limit is different at different FOV lol.  I keep FOV and mag limit and exposure at default values on start up but change them based on scenery and time.  Another thing you can do is reduce the resolution, I have SE set to 8.60 lim mag ri...
