Re: Show off your work

The bigger issue here were the high clouds, tonight seems to be better, but the night of the peak they were mostly obscured by the high clouds.

wow I would love that idea to be implemented, as that is actually how I view the universe to be, infinite but bounded!

Re: Show off your work

ah it's beautiful-- I noticed some coloring in it!   I also saw the local time there was around midnight?  Will the early Perseids be the best, since the moon isn't going to be full for a few days?

Re: Show off your work

wow it's breathtaking!  Perseid season is here again, it's just too bad we have to deal with a "super moon"... is it just my memory or do we have "bad moons" closer to the peak of the Perseids more often than not?

Re: Science and Astronomy Questions

I'm imagining how would it be to live in a planet where gravity was 30% more than that of planet Earth. Do you think it would be fatal for us in a long period? Could we survive? I think bones and veins would adapt to the new conditions, but we never tested that on humans so we cannot be sure! Surel...

Re: The Gaia Mission

I hope this hasn’t already been mentioned in the thread (I couldn’t find it) but was the satellite mission named Gaia in reference to the last book in the Issac Asimov Foundation series Foundation and Earth which talks about Gaia? Just wondering….. Love that series and the last two were my favorite...

Watch CONTACT--  the movie based on the book by Carl Sagan.

Also Interstellar, which uses relativity and has Kip Thorne, the famous physicist and winner of a bet vs Stephen Hawking about traversable wormholes, as a consultant.

Re: Largest number using 5 symbols

Mathematics does not know an upper limit for a number, so this idea would imply that the universe is infinite.  This is getting too deductive to my taste.  We would need some observational support for an infinite universe.  But what needs to be infinite?  Is the universe infinite if space and time ...

Re: Largest number using 5 symbols

Because then it would be a question of why those abstract non physical things didn't exist in reality.  We always have to be cautious about that-- there was a time that imaginary numbers were thought of as abstract and non physical, but it turns out they are absolutely essential in describing our u...

Re: Largest number using 5 symbols

The argument can be made that if the universe/multiverse is mathematical than rather than the Big Bang, there must be a Big Bounce because if the universe/multiverse is mathematical than all numbers must be able to be described within the entirety of its existence.  So would say Max Tegmark.  We co...

Re: Image Dump

https://imgur.com/a/vWYuhgD Doc, is there a wormholegate add on somewhere on Steam? It would be interesting if we put the Penrose diagrams for Kerr black holes in SE!  What an experience that would be. When the GR update goes live I will be posting some wormhole test setups that we have used during...
