Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

Saw this in Beta: RS 8496-2269-7-1500159-103 5 something is wrong with this scenario... These rings should not exist and they are also non-volumetric and lack detail (As in they might have volumetric properties but its density might be nothing so there are no ringlets). Also some ringlets are visibl...

Just saw the rings video, amazing! Makes me wonder though, regarding the ringlets, do we have data on the average shape of the non-dust sized ringlets? Since they looked much like lumpy snowballs in the video and it made me wonder, should they be more crystalline, chunky, like a boulder of pebbles, ...

General questions about SpaceEngine

35676 3. Do star evolve when-- No. That's far too ambitious. Maybe in the future, but right now SE cannot simulate anything in a dynamic fashion. Well, comets are pretty dynamic so far (though that one seems easier). And we are already getting dynamic orbits for some solar system objects. Though st...

Is there a catalog addon for OGLE? If not it would be nice if someone could pull that off, tried to find "Hoth" but there wasn't an OGLE-2005-BLG-390L b, and I noticed there are only a few of at least OGLE-2005 stars. Looking into  it  OGLR is a pretty decent sized catalog, I'm surprised i...

Rings have (floating point errors?) when pushed, example: J1407b https://i.imgur.com/twBACJx.png While this is here: HR 8799 does not contain a debri disk, which it is known for along with the 4 planets (which it has). I don't know if this is just a catalog limitation for the time being.

Science and Astronomy Questions

Watsisname Fascinating! Thinking more into this, it could also be considered a conservation of momentum problem. So all the energies of the system aren't lost, just exchanged, and the lack of an orbit can be considered a "ground state", where an object orbiting another is an "excited ...

Science and Astronomy Questions

Is there such thing as a stable orbit, or do the laws of physics forbid this? As in, any two body system should lose energy to gravitational radiation right? Even if one of the bodies were anomalous, like a space craft stabilizing an orbit, since over infinite time, it would need infinite energy to ...

Science and Astronomy Questions

What does a sea that is blue on earth look like on a planet under a white / blue sun? My guess, blue. I’m not sure if it reflects or refracts blue light but either way, its not absorbing it, and the sun is white, so that’s answered. Under a blue sun, probably more blue than on earth. BUT, if there ...

ζ Puppis, aka Naos, has a mass that is over double that on wikipedia (so I am questioning which one is right), and it is showing up with 0 oblateness despite supposedly having a ridiculous rotation for that kind of star. And due to being a Alpha Cygni variable should probably look "bubbly"...

I really thought this was fake for a second, I’m glad that SE is always having development, despite the usual delay. Which makes me wonder, would you consider having steam have opting into beta releases and send statistics and non-user generated bug reports?

Rodrigos Terrain & Clouds Mod

I agree that it is not impossible, but rather extremely impractical. It would probably require a decent modification to the engine to pull off, I can totally see it being done though. (by space engineer that is) Personally I would recommend a fractal that is reflected and modulated to save performan...

29997 Found a new one I think: WISE 0458+6434 B is a T9.5 V brown dwarf showing up from Earth? It is ludicrously bright. Look here: http://forum.spaceengine.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=546#p30004 You are fast, I'll keep searching for... anomalies (those were the biggest and nearest ones, the rest w...

29963 Possible catalog error with HR 8976 (Kappa Andromedae), incorrect temperature resulting in this surreal red-green color seen from Earth. It's a blue sub giant with a recorded temperature of over 10,000 kelvin, shows up as 1,127 K. Look here: http://forum.spaceengine.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&...

Perhaps, a compromise could be to pulsate the reflectivity. Have it be an absorber for a portion of time, then if it gets too hot, start reflecting. I cant imagine any cheap engineering method short of using nanotech to pull that off. Perhaps an electrically polarized mirror, I dont know if that wou...
