Re: Space Engine light levels are (wildly) inaccurate. Examples and Possible workaround inside:

Go to Earth. Land in daylight.
Set exposure to manual so that it looks realistic.
Don't change the exposure.
Go to Pluto.
Notice it's pitch black.
Try to land on the daytime surface (while seeing nothing).
Notice the entire landscape is 0,0,0 RGB. I.e. pitch black.

Very late reply here. But ...

Reducing SO2 in atmosphere composition

I remember the developer talking about atmosphere composition algorithm, saying that it is calculated by simulating various events and chemical reactions with other molecules of the atmosphere. Maybe also something about the presence of life and the number of active volcanoes might have effect on ...

Not the best screenshots, but it was amazing to see Jupiter rings while standing on Metis... it looked as though it was a meteor shower... (despite its rings should probably rotate a bit more slowly or Metis should move faster )

Re: Everything suddenly becoming white inside a black hole

I do miss the visual drama of the old version, but it’s cool to know it’s now based on what a real observer would experience according to general relativity
Yeah, me too. If was almost scary, but a nice experience. Too bad we will never have it back:)

Everything suddenly becoming white inside a black hole

Hello guys, it's a long time I don't do this thing in Space Engine: entering inside a black hole, and I remember the whole "outside" stretching in a circle smaller and smaller and also brighter. Right now if I cross the event horizon everything suddenly turns white everywhere I look. Do you think ...

Re: Work progress 0.991

As a game developer myself, I really struggle doing post updating the community. Is much harder (for me) than developing the game itself. Because most of the time you just work on code and things you have no way to show. You literally have nothing to show, but maybe you wrote 2000 lines code or you ...

Re: Show your desktop!

Sorry for necroposting, but I've tried countless background images and I'm never satisfied. I finally find an image that I like. This combination of Windows color and background image is amazing.

P.S. I love Windows 11, even if I wasn't sure in the beginning.

Re: Terraforming our Solar System one object at a time

I never understood terraforming the icey worlds in the outer solar system, it would just melt the surfaces and make ocean worlds with no solid ground to stand on.

I think some humans in history have lived their whole life on the sea so I guess it wouldn't be such a problem for us. So maybe it ...

Re: Can My PC Run SpaceEngine?

I just bought a whole new PC.
It has 32 GB of ram DDR5, RTX 4070 Super and an i7-14700KF.

Man... SpaceEngine's terrain generation is instantaneous 😭

It's probably due to the combo of good CPU, RAM and GPU, but I'm not sure what's the exact impact of the first two.

My latest configuration was 8 ...

Replying or creating posts, but you shouldn't spam or do useless/multiple posts just to rank up, it's just to give an idea of how much an user is active on the forum :)

Re: Dreams you've had

I had a crazy dream about SpaceEngine lol
I was showing it to a friend of mine and I went at the very edge of the universe because I saw something very bright and big. When I went there I saw a giant star several times bigger than any star we ever discovered, and it was not fussy, it was instead ...

Re: Frustration thread

When I first ran this software, I was very shocked. It's an incredible software. I can travel in the infinite universe and enjoy the infinite scenery on the planet.
I hope there will be more software things in the future that I like, such as controlling a character to run on a planet, which is ...

Re: Is This Forum Dead?

Yeah like almost every forum except development ones.
It doesn't mean the community is dead but it's just not interacting anymore or moved to other platforms (like Reddit).
Hopefully with the next release some new people will discover the software :)

Dang that's an extremely puffy planet. It's density is the same as graphene aerogel! It's like a giant hot cloud.

Re: Work progress 0.991

Suuuuup, any significant updates? Like landscape's shadows?

Conversion to Vulkan from the existing OpenGL implementation is ongoing, a necessary step towards visually significant updates.
As you may have noticed, catalog updates and fixes have been the focus of latest updates on Steam.
And ...
