Planetarium mode will fundamentally be what it already is - it already allows you to disable rendering of procedural objects. It is already useful for amateur astronomers in some cases, but I highly doubt it will ever be a replacement for a dedicated earthbound planetarium program like Stellarium. It's not really fair to compare the capabilities of SE, which is trying to depict a 3D 1:1 scale representation of the entire universe, which you can fly around in freely and seamlessly, with a program that dedicates its entire existence to depicting the sky as seen from planets in the Solar system.
