Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

21 Oct 2018 10:40

I have found a bug where my scripted asteroids' disappear when i turn their orbits visuals off

here iss the code:
[code]Asteroid "InStroid1"
{
ParentBody "Sun B"
Mass 0.000064
Class "Asteroid"
AlbedoBond 0.26
Surface
{
SurfStyle       0.641109
colorSea       (0.178, 0.153, 0.125, 0.000)
colorShelf     (0.182, 0.158, 0.143, 0.000)
colorBeach     (0.214, 0.185, 0.170, 0.000)
colorDesert    (0.233, 0.198, 0.165, 0.000)
colorLowland   (0.255, 0.212, 0.188, 0.000)
colorUpland    (0.283, 0.257, 0.228, 0.000)
colorRock      (0.306, 0.279, 0.246, 0.000)
colorSnow      (0.333, 0.297, 0.259, 1.000)
}
Orbit
{
Period 0.167
Inclination 14.5
AscendingNode 24
Eccentricity 0.084
ArgOfPericen 50
}
}[/code]
Note that some of the parameters are not filled because I want them randomly generated or calculated

I also don't know how to put an image up because it asks me for a link to an online image while I only have them on my computer and links from one drive or google drive don't work

Once you have made at least 10 posts, you can also post pictures, and the code embedding will work as well.

I suspect that your asteroid is only sometimes invisible? Is it visible when you move in space? Will it be visible if you move it back and forth?

As far as I know, this is a known bug. (Which may be fixed in the next release of SE.)

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

27 Oct 2018 06:51

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with engine exhaust effects for ships built with the spacecraft editor (the download version, for which there is also the online editor) in space engine 0.9.8.0. I searched the forum, the threads, the known bugs etc for it but did not find it.

Here it is: I built a few ships with the editor and everything was fine. One day I discovered the possibilities of the in-game ship editor (the manipulating tool for objects in the game), especially modification/addition of engine exhaust effects. Without reading the paragrafs of the official manual regarding the in-game editor, I started to work and gave my interstellar vessel (inspired by a picture for the Leonora Christina from the novel Tau Zero) a huge torch flame, to be seen on telescopes as it pushes itself away, forward into the unknown, a giant glare in the dark, truly worthy a mistress of interstellar travel.

But the problem I have now, is that these added exhaust effects are kind of procreating themself, now they are also emitted form the middle of the ship, not just from the position at the propulsion section, where I originally placed them carefully. They are burning through the whole ship.
The second weird thing about it: this problem occurs in a separate installed version of space engine 0.9.8e (normally I don't use 0.9.8e because of grafic issue and stick to 9.8.0), where I never worked with the in-game editor, just copied the .sss of the ships from the editor directory directly to the addons/models... path of 0.9.8e; AND the problem keeps apearing on new downloaded and installed versions of 0.9.8.0
And because it is not weird enough (at least for me) now a few of my other vessels (also built with the editor) are "burning up" themselfs, too. And for them I really never added exhaust effects

So the problem seems to be independent from engine version, game directory and (editor)spacecraft!? Are there cache directories or configs for SE in the windows user files, like for other games in the user/documents for example. Did not find something like that. Or is it my gpu?

also important note: when I select exhaust effect in the in-game editor and try to delete it, SE crashs to desktop.
I am aware that the engine and especially things like the in-game editor are still in developement, but sadly this problem destroys my spacefaring experience and is annoying like a skunk in the air conditioner

I have pictures of this issue and can give a dropbox link, if you like

 Hello dear citizens of the stars.

My issue is straight forward, SE keep crashing at certain situations like travel through galaxy's, planets surface, when
using the zoom, basically anything that put any load.

I have everything up to date and i reinstalled SE a few time but the issue is persistent.

My rig:
I7 4790k 5Ghz
1080ti
16G DDR3
Windows 10
SE on SSD

If you are reinstalling SpaceEngine, install it in an empty folder. That is, delete all files and folders left over from a previous installation.

For the time being, however, it may be sufficient if you delete the 'cache' folder in your SpaceEngine directory.

The error seems to have something to do with the data in the 'cache'.

I would add that your Nvidia drivers are not the latest available for your graphic card, it's usually a good idea having them updated.

That's normal as far as I know for this version. It's a bug.  If you zoom in a lot and use the home key I think? to zoom out fast to the default value it will crash every time without fail.   Just use the manual key, zoom out slowly and only once close to the default FOV then you can use home or end? I forget which key exactly.

[color=#dbdbdb][font=Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif]Hi everyone[/font][/color]

[color=#dbdbdb][font=Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif]I noticed that once in a while an update comes in that makes the textures for certain objects completely disappear, for example all of my ships right now are invisible[/font][/color]
[color=#dbdbdb][font=Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif]also 'Oumuamua doesn't show at all anymore either[/font][/color]

[color=#dbdbdb][font=Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif]Is this a problem on my end and if so how could I fix it?[/font][/color]

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

my apologies for the previous post, I copy/pasted it and have no means of editing it

I realized that once in a while after certain updates, textures for certain objects like ships for example and in more recent case 'Omuamua completely disappear and objects become invisible.

I seem to be able to see them in previous versions but not recent updates

Does anybody know of an easy solution to this?

whatdamath, Don't worry unfortunately there's a limitation for newly registered users, someone will grant you access to the beta tester forum section.
After the last update when running in Planetarium mode the Spacecraft button on the right menu is disabled. This affects the appearance of some objects like 'Omuamua or Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Check if spaceships are enabled with the button or in settings > filter Objects. Vladimir said he fixed that for the next update.

alessandro, could you please use https://pastebin.com/ to post your se.log file, which is located in your SpaceEngine/system/ folder, and give us here the address of the file?
