General questions about SpaceEngine

24 Sep 2017 05:02

Hello, when I type in locations other players posted, space engine can't find the planets or just sends me to whole other planets/systems. An example:

Corvogon: RS 2380-338-8-4267501-24 B4
http://se-database.wikia.com/wiki/Corvogon

Space engine can't find it when I paste the location in the search field.

If the location is from another version of SpaceEngine, then it is very likely that it no longer exists. The seed for the random generator changes with each version of SpaceEngine.
Likewise, the address can change when galaxy addons are used. [hr] For me the address works.

General questions about SpaceEngine

Alright, thank you. I used a very old version of space engine, I now installed the newest one and it now works.

General questions about SpaceEngine

Another question, I try to write it down so it's understandable.

You can normally rotate around an object with the right mouse button. For example a planet. When you hold the right mouse button, you can rotate around it. And now here's my problem: When I click on an object, so the information is on the upper left, I cant rotate around that object. When I hold right click, I rotate really weird, due to the last object I went to. So the game is still trying to rotate around the last object I went to. What do I mean with "went to"? Clicking on the bottom button which instantly leads you to the object. But normally you can just rotate already when you click on something. So what can I do to fix that problem?

General questions about SpaceEngine

I have a question, when looking at the sky at night (from Earth or any planet) is there a way to center on the Zenith?

Other questions, where can I find a better representative image of M31 Andromeda Galaxy and also of M42 Orion's Nebula?  The images in SE aren't as colorful or as detailed as some I've found online.  Can I add them to the program?  M42 just looks like a red blob even at narrow FOV in SE and M31 just looks like a nondistinct disk-shaped cloud :(

You can look up with Ctrl-Numpad 8. But as soon as you release the keys, you return to the original view.

Maybe it's just my keyboard, but I have found if you release the number key before the ctrl key, the view will lock to that orientation. Press another view key to unlock it again. And of course, if you release the ctrl key before the number key, the view will revert back to forward view as soon as you let go of the key.

Edit: Thanks Jack, I do indeed have it backwards. Release the ctrl key first, and the view will lock.

For me it is the other way round. I must first release the Ctrl key to lock the view.

Is there a way to compare two objects that are in different solar systems/galaxies?

Thanks guys, I got it to work!  No way to center on N, S, E, W, is there?

You could open SpaceEngine twice and place the windows side by side.

Hm, nothing like the solar system table?

How do I find the right ascension and declination of a certain spot in another galaxy where I want to place a scripted star? Do I have to view the area from Earth and guesstimate, or is there an easier way?

If it's a catalog galaxy, you can find it in the object finder window (F3). Once selected, open the info wiki window (I) and you'll see RA/Dec. If it's a procedural galaxy, you can select it when in its proximity, tracking it with T, select Earth with shift-H then hit G. Now you can see coordinates in the wiki window.
