Is two and a half hours considered too long for a video?

I've watched the extended LoTR trilogy (excluding Hobbit) in one marathon run, so I say no. ;)

Haha! Ok well I've got 36 hours left to render it as a single file then some more time to upload to YouTube for my first try. I was battling horrible banding and quality loss issues at so many points that I'll probably have to settle on 30fps at 720 width. I knew I had to convert to mp4 to get over the 4GB limit on AVIs but i need to find a better method next time.

I watched the extended hobbit and all the LOTR in a row, it was a long session.
I don't think 2+ hours is a good idea for an SE video though

If it's done as a documentary, you might succeed in keeping the attention span for about an hour and half. People accept movie-length videos, but the pace has to be very good, not only a smooth sequence of planets, stars, galaxies... You need a story for this.

I'm afraid it is more of a scatological mess of random clips from a minute to 4 or 5 of over 120 locations. The added frustrating distraction of still picture slides are thrown in every few moving clips of which most tend to be a bit fast and stomach churning. Quality deteriorates as it progresses. I have yet to select any sound or music to help mask the painful journey. My wife refuses to watch any of it.

How does one edit together a 2 hour video while also being capable of such withering self-criticism? I usually skip the work and get straight to the self-criticism... so I guess you're my hero!

Watching the progress bar slowly inch across the screen hour after hour is a form of self-torture I have perfected over the many years I've sat at this keyboard. I milk it for all it is worth!

So what settings would you choose in you video captures to keep your FPS up while recording? I seem to have trouble using the uncompressed format on a 6500K and GTX1080 with high quality graphics settings.

Or perhaps the built-in recorder is not as good as third party software? Recommendations? I'm basically aiming for the best quality and speed. Disk space is no issue.

I'm not sure how to share topics in a different thread or post but here is a link to it. I discuss the use of the UT-Video-Codec. Also be careful about large files sizes larger than 4GB if your drive uses the FAT32 system

I'll look into that sometime in the next couple of days then. Cheers.

Also, do people who still use FAT32 even have compatible hardware for SE?
