I only get 14-35 fps at my current settings but with lots of stuttering and jerking. I am limited in every way.  CPU, GPU, vram, and system ram.   New PC due in the new year but am going to try snag a 6800XT tonight.  Want a reference model so I can guarantee a water block for it but there is only 16 cards total in Australia, wish me luck!

Anyway here is some more shots I took yesterday once my PC settled down from hitching for several min at a time.

Thanks for the settings, guys!  I'll try different combos :)  One thing I am wondering about, if I have a screen that is 1280x1024 does setting the landscape resolution to 1080P make sense?  In other words would I notice that on my screen?  What about 4K?

This is what I have....Ultra....V-Sync  Auto  MSAA AA 4x  Landscape LOD 0  Loading speed 10

the six things below are checkmarked

Landscape resolution 1080P
Warp and refl resolution 4096
the four things below are all set to high
Anistropy 16x
the four things below are all checked except compress textures
Volumetric res while moving 0.5 while stationary 1

I thought you needed a lot of video memory to use LOD 1?  Do you have more than 6 GB VRAM?  Do you use a utility to measure how much VRAM you're using and does it end up being more than 6 GB when loading planetary landscapes?

My display is 1920 x 1080 and setting landscape resolution to higher than 1080p had no visual difference as far as I could tell.

Thanks....what is this warp and refl resolution thing?  I set that to 4096 because I get very high resolution cubemap screenshots with it.

Warp and refl. resolution seemed to change the quality of gravitational lensing by black holes (and presumably the warp drive effect on ships)

The effects were very minimal, though. I didn't notice a difference

And reflection resolution is for reflective surfaces on ships.

Put together with (mostly) parts generously supplied by ettore_bilbo, Perhaps not as he/she intended, but I like to colour outside the lines a lot. ;)  I have some ideas for other additions, but Blender is not the most intuitive of programs to work with. >:(

how does it all look when you are "traveling" does it give you a portal like view?

From the ship itself? It depends where you put the camera. It's the same ship in this post (perhaps after a few minor modifications — it still changes a bit almost every day). And also here, some traveling?
