Planets with potentially breathable atmospheres

05 Jul 2017 09:22

I did some searching today and I found some possible promising finds here. One of them is a desert.

O2 levels on this one might be too low.

Image
This desert is pretty darn cold. Its atmosphere is probably right on the edge of survivability.

Image
This one here looks a little more promising.
Image
Another one with a really thin atmosphere. SO2 levels might be a little high.

Image
And this one right here is the jewel of all these finds. It even has a terra moon!

Planets with potentially breathable atmospheres

Pack your bags honey! We are moving to RS 996-7-5-30591-778 B4 tonight!

While it IS a bit cold, at least I can breathe without air tanks or worry about convulsions and seizures. I might not want to run anywhere since the air is as thin as the top of Mt Everest. Hyperventilation and certain mountain climbing breathing techniques will help keep the O2 in my blood at decent levels.
Carbon Dioxide levels are low enough that I would feel at home, just like in Athens or Rome or Mexico City during the 80s
NO Sulfur Dioxide to even worry about! :)
Hydrogen Sulfide would only cause conjunctivitis, but I think eye drops would help alleviate any discomfort.
I might lose my sense of smell over time though, no biggie.

The biggest problem, and one that wouldn't cause this to not be considered a winner, is the 87.7% Oxygen in the air. See previous post about inspired oxygen percentages. Oxygen therapy patients are not allowed to breathe concentrations over 60%. This too can lead to oxygen poisoning. But that is splitting hairs at this moment. I would include this planet in the short list of survivable atmospheres. ;)

Congrats!

So this is actually habitable.... excellent! Humans would have to learn to adapt to the cold, gravity difference and the tidal lockedness, but at least we won't have to wear space suits. This would become a planet we could possibly live on.

Thanks!

Some more positives about this planet is that some of the nearby planets in its system are close enough to be visible disks in the sky!

Suggestions for a name for the planet anyone?

But since it is tidally locked, would we be only able to live the side which has sunlight , or areas which has habitable temperature???

We can survive the temperature there with thick jackets, body warmers, and winter hats probably. The only areas with a temperature we can survive would be sunlit side. So both. The dark side is very very cold and it is likely that we will reach a point that the atmosphere freezes and falls to the ground, sorta like what happens on pluto.

Hello again.
Another close one: RSC 1228-2-4-1516-9 3. Tidally locked though.
Wondering whether we can reduce CO2 using photosynthesis...

It seems like you found the same planet I found:)

I found some more planets here. One of them is oddly huge for a terra. Some of these are really close.

This one is one where we might have to wear masks, other than that its probably all good except the cold.

Image
Here is a somewhat habitable terra.
Image
This one is gigantic. But it seems to have a mostly breatheable atmosphere.
Image
An Oceania. Might have to wear filters and masks for this one.

Wow. I guess it is really a place we wouldn't want to go despite its beauty.

Impressive work, Starlight Glimmer.
1 question:
Did SpaceEngineer find a breathable planet already, long before we started our search???

Thanks elemental, I don't know if those were found by spaceengineer. But they could be. Not sure.

Today I did some more searching, and here are my finds.

This desert here is boiling hot, but should be breatheable.

This one, and the one after it are in the same system.
