There's a fun new game out, and it's free to play! It also seems like a good fit for Space Engine. Because what's the point of having a universe to explore if you can't turn it all into paperclips?

"Universal Paperclips achieved in 5 hours 5 minutes 48 seconds" might well be a very good argument for why the universal speed limit of c is in fact a good and very important thing xD

Mouthwash, lol you steal 5 hours from SE development :) But the Universe has been converted to 30,000 sexdecilion paper clips...

I was thinking someone should make a neural net figure out the best strategy for this game, then I remembered that is how we wipe ourselves out.

I played this game for a little. It seems addicting if you continue... So, what's the point? Turning universe into paperclips? Good game tho, I guess!

Five hours? I'm not as good at this game as I thought.

That isn't enough?

A friend of mine decided to take the stubborn route and continue fighting the Drifters in the hopes of exterminating them. He narrowly lost, 0 probes to a scant 127 remaining Drifters xD

Drifters are your own probes turned rogue. Note that their total number (both alive and destroyed) is the same as your losses from value drift. I got them to zero early on, but it just shoots back up.

The best strategy on the last stage is investing into probe self-replication abilities, while keeping hazard remediation at 8 and fighting abilities at 7-8 points, to keep population of drifters under control (<1% lost in combat). Build few billion drones and take CPUs from them, to speed up creativity computation, required for upgrades.

Nah, once you build up a decent lead 4 is enough. In mid-stage it seemed that five times out of four I outnumbered them.

We were aware of this, but I found it comical how it ended up being an hours-long battle of attrition lost by such a comically narrow margin - 127 survivors after untold decillions having been involved in the war. xD

That isn't surprising. The rate of drifter increase is always going to be dependent upon your own numbers. If you fall from decillions to millions, they'll fall as well.

And why would he dedicate so much time to wiping them out if he knew it was impossible?

This sucked me in harder than bowling ball falling into the supermassive blackhole in ICG 1101. As I'm typing this I just broke the 3 septillion mark
