Exposure is a very bad tool for seeing dark areas of planets. A spotlight would come in handy. All in favor?

How many times do we have to repeat "raise the ambient lighting setting"?

Wow, really! And here I thought it was a sure thing that I'd tried everything that could be tried.
I don't know how.

EDIT: Hidden slider! Amazing how much easier it becomes when you know an answer exists.

A-L-E-X, and others, I see you did not look into the readme text file (of the language of your choice) in the SpaceEngine\docs\ folder. It lists all the key bindings for various features and functions.

There you will also find how to move the camera in all three axes, and roll, pitch, and yaw. As well as three different camera modes. Plus how to toggle a velocity vector icon so you can see exactly where you are headed.

Not to mention all the various lighting controls and many other things.

And all that being said, having actual headlights or spotlights on ships is no doubt a desired feature. (Although I'm sure significant ship updates are not a high priority at the moment.)

Thanks guys.  I thought it was a driver thing, I do most of my tweaks using the Nvidia Driver or a  nifty program called Nspector

Ambient lighting makes things too flat as it kinda overrides shading. We just want a key that lights up a planet with the same amount of light 1au from the sun.

Then I think what you want is to toggle "Real Planet Brightness" off — Shift-V. (And quite possibly "Real Sun Brightness" — Ctrl-V.)
