I'm not exactly a
new member on this forum, but I still felt like it were better if I said hello before making any other posts on the forum
I'm RockoRocks, from Belgium. Some of you may know me from the old forum, where I ran my own space ship model port thread, amongst other things. I had been using the forum mainly between 2013 and 2015, and after that became fairly inactive, due to my laptop shutting down automatically, to prevent overheating damage after mere minutes. So, because I wasn't really able to use SpaceEngine, I didn't feel like posting on the forum as much anymore. But that has changed. A few weeks ago, my laptop became extremely slow (read: taking 45 minutes to boot, several minutes to open a folder), and after trying a few things I decided to backup my files and format it.
When I had reset my laptop back to factory state, I decided to partition the hard drive and have it be a dual-boot with Linux Debian 9 alongside Windows 7. My RE teacher (yes, believe it or not, he even
has an entire site about it) is a huge Linux advocate, that's why I took interest in trying it myself. I installed it two days ago and so far I love absolutely every bit of it. The only thing for now is, I have not been able to get SpaceEngine to work properly (using PlayOnLinux) yet, but I will make a post about this in Troubleshooting.
If I can get it to work on Linux, I may consider participating in this great community as I did before again, but even if I can't do that, I stil might do that, although that would just be a bit more inconvenient. Thank you for taking your time to read this
