Why is Nvidia recommeded over AMD GPU's?

25 Jan 2018 14:08

After years with Space Engine the system I built before this one with a R9 290 ran Space Engine just as well as a Nvidia card of the same class (GTX 1060 6gb) So why is it in this forum and the old websites forum swears that Nvidia GPU's are the best. After 3 gaming rigs A good GPU whether it be Nvidia or AMD runs SE just the same. Is this fanboyism that is harbored by the elite in this forum? Or can you prove to me my 300 fps I get on a Nvidia GPU is better then the 300 fps I averaged on a AMD GPU?

Just saying.

Also even old Bulldozer AMD CPU's ran this just as well if not slightly better then a Kaby Lake 7700. I don't understand the AMD hate here or in the previous forum.

Starshines, first thing first. Where did you get the impression of fanboyism or elitism?? Why you seem so bothered about it??
It seems to me that current user base is using equally AMD and Nvidia chipsets.
Personally I use Nvidia GPUs because, as a computer builder, I had more issues with AMD products than Nvidia ones. When you lose precious time and money on products you proposed to your customers, you'll remember it forever, I can assure you. It's the same old aversion you may develop for whatever computer brand that gave you all those problems a couple years ago... It could have been simply a faulty product, yet you'll remember it when it comes to choose again, that's simply how the human brain works.
I'm not a fanatic, I just found peace after some battles that scarred me.
I'm glad you didn't have my experiences.

P.S.
I'm moving this thread under General Discussions since it's not a troubleshooting request.

The one and only thing I can say; NVIDIA updates pretty often and each time, I can very easily see a noticeable improvement.
CPU: AMD FX-8350 8 core processor 4GHz / GPU: GeForce GT 730 @ 1920x1080, 60Hz with 1GB adapter RAM / RAM: Patriot Signature 4GB 1600MHz 240-Pin DDR3 (only 2GB work, don't buy it) / Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming MS-7693

Why is Nvidia recommeded over AMD GPU's?

I was a little drunk when I posted this and I apologize if I came across as obtuse or brash. I just remember in the old forum a lot of people were encouraging people to go Nvidia over AMD. I am no fanboy by any means as you can see in my signature my current build is a Intel/Nvidia based platform and I could not be happier. But when I was told that my previous build (FX 8350/R9 290) wouldn't be that great for SE it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Especially now upon retrospect that SE runs just as good on a Kaby Lake/Pascal platform as it did on my previous platform with virtually the same settings.(The GPU is slightly better so I'm using 8x MSAA opposed to 4x MSAA and I was able to increase the LOD detail slightly with a slightly faster loading time. But that is to be expected on a GPU that's several years newer.)
