I can imagine that there are a lot of bugs to fix with all the cool new stuff coming up. I can't wait, but I can at the same time. That lighting system is too awesome to ignore.

I've already engaged my Hypedrive...

  • Seasonal changes (snow cover and polar caps, dust storms, evaporation or freezing of the seas and the atmosphere)

Does this include global climate-change events caused by atmospheric/stellar activity like ice-ages and "Snow-ball Earth" events?

(As an aside, the above examples I gave would really be only viable for Earth-like worlds. Non-Earthly planetary environments would have other, perhaps not too dissimilar, global changes due to differences in their relative intrinsic properties).

whatever it is, it doesn't sound like it'd be an easy task.

I don't know if it's possible, but it would be cool in a future version to have the ability to take a ray-traced screenshot. Obviously leave in the non raytrace option.

Looking forward to the introduction of stellar evolution models and galaxies evolution models, as well as the effects of galaxy collisions, supernova explosions, they look great.

I'm wondering how much a deferred shading pipeline will benefit Space Engine. With so much of the universe being transparent, and only a few lights illuminating celestial objects at most, I can't imagine it being a quantum leap.

It already has to deal with the lights of any number of suns, planets, and moons simultaneously, and already corners have to be cut to save on performance (I think only 4 lights are allowed at any one time right now). And when spacecraft can have their own local lights, there could be hundreds of lights drawn at once. Deferred shading is necessary for that.

"4 lights"

I honestly could've sworn Space Engine could have more lights, considering the support for multiples. :O

Either that or I'm a future Cardassian in my next reincarnation. ;)

i think a cloud update or a bug fix update

Any update or bug fix is great and I have enthusiastically jumped into the beta, but what I'd really love to see next is volumetric clouds. I know I am daydreaming now, but given a few more years of hardware development, I'd love to see waves crashing on the shores, storms, caves and even some procedural vegetation.

Also, now with the new model of supergiants and their awesome surface, I am hoping more than ever that someday their surfaces may be animated and really show all the movement of the gas.

Why is the simulation of the evolution of galaxies and stars labeled uncertain if possible?
