"No site versions anymore. SE will be Steam-only. Maybe in future I will expand it to other sale platforms, particularly, Oculus."
What about us who do not have a steam account?

I too would much prefer a standalone version.

I don't think anyone should be forced to install Steam just to have SE 0.9.9.0. It makes sense to me to do this if it's not going to be free. It might be more convenient for those who already have Steam to update this way, but for who don't have it and don't want it it's restricting us to Steam and forcing us to use it which is probably a show stopper for me. Of course there will probably be a cracked version which doesn't require you to install Steam, but are you happy with people using cracked versions of a program that is free anyway, just to be able to have it without having to install Steam as well? That IMO defeats the very purpose of having a Steam only version in the first place. People who don't want steam will likely use this version as a substitute to a site version. The user IMO should be given freedom of choice to install SE the way he wants provided it's still free. Of course not everyone will agree with me here. Some won't mind this and others have different reasons but even some people who already have Steam, might still want a standard version. Whatever the reason, I'm in favor of giving user a choice here and have multiple ways to get the program, not force him to only one option, that is likely not desirable for everyone.

Even if I could code to help SpaceEngine, sadly I don't think SpaceEngineer can even get new pieces of code from people who do want to help, due to SpaceEngine being closed-source. :(

I was happy to see a blog post that shows that the release is closer than I was thinking. Even not having an official date.

Steam is a valid platform to put SE on. Many people already have it, and it isn't like steam is malware or anything. To each his own, but what is so bad about having to have steam? If it's the forced launching through steam then I can understand.
Can I have an order of uhhh randomly generated city lights?

DRM,including steam's, is bad cause it will mean that the game will not work anymore once the owner of that drm ceases to exist

"What about us who do not have a steam account?"

As far as I know you can create a Steam account on this site https://store.steampowered.com/ for free. Without a Steam account it will be impossible to buy Space Engine on the Steam Store.

Imho, releasing this project exclusively on Steam Store will help it to gain more popularity (through suggestions, tags, discovery queue, steam discounts, curator reviews etc); Also it will be easier to push new updates live without the need to upload Space Engine installation file on multiple mirrors and bit-torrent tracker; And of course it will be a lot easier for players to get new updates through Automatic Updates feature, find guides and mods through Community Hub;
