Yes, that is exactly it. I had looked at the comparisons in the new tabs, and I did not see much difference. The selected environment is not dynamic enough, as
SpaceEngineer said (unless you chose it to demonstrate detail degrading at a distance dependent on the resolution). However, the new terrain is a great improvement from the 2D decals from before. When are you thinking of taking another step up graphically, and have fully volumetric 3D models of various planetary objects like rocks?
Stellarator, limiting by 1080p is the default mode, even on RTX 2080 I use it. But in VR difference is very prominent: I can see significant degrade in 3D rocks quality in few meters distance. So I implemented separate terrain resolution settings for VR and desktop modes.
