Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.8.0

05 Dec 2017 19:00

Hey.
I just downloaded Space Engine 0.980 and wanted to install it but it doesnt work at all. I was waiting around 15 mintues for the UAC to pop up, but it didnt. Another 15 Minutes later after closing the Installer through Taskmanager's Processes tab the UAC popped up(what??). I tried to install it again, but it didnt work either.. Instead it is showing me an error message: To many files are currently in use by 16bit programs. I disabled my AVG Firewall and Antivirus completely but that didnt do anything. And yes i didnt download the patch, i downloaded the Full Game.

My Specs are:
16GB RAM
AMD Athlon X4 860K 4x3.70GHZ
Radeon R7 240 2GB
1TB WD HDD (660GB free)
Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64bit

Nobody seems to know the answer to this problem..

If User Account Control doesn't appear after 15 minutes or more with your specifications, there's a very conspicuous chance that your operating system is extremely busy doing something else. Assuming you tried again after a reboot and it didn't work again, there could have been also some trouble during the download that damaged the installer. I'd double check for viruses and/or adware programs, before trying to download again, though, considering how big is the executable. Personally I prefer Malwarebytes AdwCleaner for a quick wipe, once in a while.

RS 8474-1353-8-4176999-592 A6.1 is a warm desert moon. It also has cyclones and what appeared to be seas from a distance, though when I got closer I realized they were discolored areas of the terrain. I've never seen anything similar on other planets, except for actual seas when I turn off water in the sidebar. They're also shaped exactly like seas. I suppose SE accidentally generated a planet with seas as a desert?

EDIT: There's also a definitely bugged volcano that appears twisted shut.

Are you using a custom palette.cfg? The color scheme for desert worlds you mentioned is intentionally included in the ones I've released, And someone just recently made a palette that "fixes" the blue colors, although I forget where he posted it.

Edit: It is here: http://forum.spaceengine.org/viewtopic. ... =60#p11754
Specs: STGAubron desktop PC; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060/PCIe/SSE2 12 GB Vram, Intel Core i7-8700 3.2 GHz, 12 cpus; 32 GB RAM; Windows 11 x64

I have never used mods or altered Space Engine in any way other than a fix for a particular binary system. Can't you find the world in vanilla?

What look like seas from a distance may be depressions, so you are seeing more atmosphere in them. From a distance they would appear blue (assuming you have a blue sky). I don't think atmospheric opacity is directly tied to atmospheric density in 0.9.8.0 (but I could be wrong). As you get closer, your looking through less atmosphere, so the blue disappears.

I've seen a few of those puckered volcanoes, also, but not too many, thankfully. (And they're always on the bottom of the planets, too... how weird... :) )

No, they are definitely colored differently. There appears to be a 'water level' above which it does not rise.

Exactly. Denser atmosphere below a certain altitude.

I visited the planet in your screenshot. I see atmosphere. If you see something different, post some pics of the phenomenon so we can all see.

I am denying that the atmosphere is producing the terrain effect, not that the moon has an atmosphere.

Mouthwash, allow us to assess the nature of the issue by uploading a screenshot of what you see, also please attach your se.log file, it's in your SpaceEngine/system/ folder.

Yes, I know.  Does this sea fade away as you approach it? Or just instantly disappear?
Again, show us some pics of the phenomenon.

What are you talking about? There's no sea, just discolorations that seem like they were intended to hold seas.

It's a weird area with terrain elevation ranging from 0 m to less than 1 km above sea level. Different terrain coloration is most likely calculated by SE based on this parameter.
